PRIMARY FUNCTION


Under the direction of the Director of Operations and Operations Department management/supervisory staff, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will perform duties associated with providing rescue services, emergency and non-emergency medical care to the sick and injured, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and Lynch EMS policies.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Must possess and apply knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an EMT, in a dignified and compassionate manner, while administering basic life support to patients at the scene, enroute to the hospital and in a prehospital setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards;
  • Treats all clients, vendors and staff consistent with the core values of the company;
  • Adheres to the Lynch EMS Mission Statement of providing the best of patient care, next customer acquisition, professionalism, and ethical business practices;
  • Understands and follows the Lynch EMS Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance procedures;
  • Understands, follows, and is able to locate Lynch EMS's Policies and Procedures;
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls calmly, efficiently and promptly;
  • Demonstrates supportive teamwork behavior with all employees;
  • Must perform routine tasks in and around the ambulance service building, including; checking, restocking, inventorying and cleaning any vehicle or equipment of Lynch EMS;
  • Providing ambulance stand-by services at sporting events or any other activities;
  • Provide accurate and timely records of certifications and licenses;
  • Provide written records of incidents, unusual events and patient encounters;
  • Demonstrates punctuality and attendance reliability;
  • Completes duties as assigned within time frame provided;
  • Creates and maintains a safe work environment;
  • Ensures work area is kept organized and clean from contaminates;
  • Maintains a neat and professional appearance;
  • Completes and submits all paperwork and electronic patient care records accurately and completely;
  • Be available for recall to work in the event of disaster, MCI or other incident that taxes available resources;
  • Demonstrate ability to handle problems and/or direct them to a supervisor;
  • Negotiate hazardous scenes in all environmental extremes including but not limited to light/dark, heat/cold, wet/dry/frozen scenes;
  • Performs all tasks as assigned supervisory and management staff;
  • EMT must have interpersonal abilities sufficient to interact with individuals, families, groups, public safety personnel and other health care providers form a variety of social, emotional, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds consistent with the core values and mission statement of Lynch EMS.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Current California Driver's License;
  • California EMT certification;
  • Current CPR certification that is recognized by and meets requirements set forth by local EMS agencies;
  • Able to obtain CA DMV Ambulance Drivers Certificate within 30 days of employment;
  • Able to obtain OCEMS EMT Ambulance Driver/Attendant License within 30 days of employment;
  • Current Medical Examiners Certificate (MCSA 5876);
  • DMV driving record meeting requirements set forth by insurance carrier.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Unimpaired Mobility: Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance calls, must physically be able to access patients located in difficult terrain and dangerous environments and locations, must be able to climb stairs and other structures, must be able to work in close and dangerous environments, such as without limitation, damaged vehicles and structures on fire, must be able to carry heavy equipment and patients.
  • Physical Abilities: Must be able to perform strenuous physical requirements including without limitation lifting and moving of heavy equipment and patients in a variety of environmental and dangerous conditions, perform CPR and other lifesaving maneuvers. 
  • Fine Motor Skills: Must be able to perform required medical skills and techniques, without limitations bandaging, splinting and establishing an IV, perform endotracheal intubation and other advanced airway techniques, manual defibrillation, pleural decompression.
  • Vision: Must have correctable vision that permits the safe operation of emergency vehicles, the reading of gauges, fine print and figures associated with emergent medical care and treatment, and color acuity to differentiate varying colors that may be necessary in providing emergency care and treatment.
  • Hearing: Must be able to obtain information provided by patients, family members, bystanders, medical professionals and other emergency personnel; and adequate hearing necessary to provide emergency care and treatment in active, distracting environments
  • Speech: Must be able to speak and enunciate clearly and at a level audible to others in loud conditions. Must be able to verbally communicate in stressful and distracting environments with patients, family members, medical professionals and other emergency personnel.
