SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Provide a dynamic guest experience for Zoo Knoxville guests in a variety of settings through excellent customer service and diligent, accurate job performance. Event Experience Team members may flex between the general event team and birthday parties depending on event schedule needs.
General Event Team - Event set up and facilitation of private corporate & social events.
Birthday Host - Facilitate Birthday Parties in a supportive role to ensure a smooth party.
Birthday Safari Leader - Lead party games and keep parties on task throughout the zoo.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • As a team member, exemplify and promote Zoo Knoxville's core values through interactions with guests and fellow team members.
  • Provide excellent guest experience by consistently delivering high-level customer service and responding to guest inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Assist in providing a safe and healthy work environment for staff and guests.
  • Demonstrate and enforce all Zoo policies and procedures.
  • Accurately perform transactions in an efficient, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Maintain appearance and cleanliness of all work areas and surrounding public spaces, including equipment.
  • Work events, including corporate, social (weddings), and birthday parties. This includes many events after general zoo hours as well as on nights and weekends.
  • Communicate accurate and engaging information about our animals and conservation efforts during events to individuals/groups of various ages.
  • Assist in setting up and/or breaking down various event locations within the zoo. This includes lifting and carrying various equipment, such as tables and chairs.
  • Assist in other Guest Experience operations as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must demonstrate and promote a team atmosphere while supporting a friendly and efficient workforce and working with a diverse group of people.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Must be dependable and honest with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors, sitting or standing as directed, in varying temperatures and weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Have a flexible work schedule; must be available some nights, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
As an employee of Zoo Knoxville, you must possess English communication skills as well as the ability to communicate using a 2-way radio, email, and telephone. The position hours vary depending on business needs and will require weekend and some holiday shifts. The individual must be able to tolerate extremes in outdoor temperatures and weather conditions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be to stand for long periods of time on varying surfaces. Depending on the specific tasks, this position will be required to work within close proximity of exotic and domestic animals and must be aware that there are dangers inherent in working under those conditions. Zoo Knoxville is committed to maintaining a drug free workplace and as such each employee must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Periodic, random drug screens are required.
