Computer Operator I/Common Display System (CDS) Operator

Saalex is seeking an Computer Operator I/Common Display System (CDS) Operator in Camarillo, CA. Saalex is an Engineering and Information Technology Services company with a focus on Test Range Operations and Management, Engineering and Logistics Services, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Services and Information Technology Services. Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $24.16- $26.50 hourly (depending upon experience) Work Location: Onsite.

Essential Functions: The Computer Operator I / Common Display System (CDS) Operator supports critical test, evaluation, training, and range operations activities. This position provides real-time operator support for weapons system test events, including air-to-air, air-to-surface, surface-to-air, and surface-to-surface projects. The selected candidate will support range displays, tracking systems, video and data recordings, communications checks, operational logs, and coordination with Test Conductors, Range Safety personnel, project engineers, radar operators, and other operational control room users. The employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties:

  • Comply with computer operation policies, standards, procedures, safety requirements, quality requirements, and environmental requirements.
  • Configure and operate range display systems within operational control room environments to support real-time requirements for Test Conductors, Range Safety personnel, project engineers, and other users.
  • Acquire, maintain, and monitor tracks on vehicles during test events, ensuring radar and tracking system configuration changes are executed accurately.
  • Verify the accuracy and availability of tracking packages, track correlations, target assignments, real-time tracking feeds, and time synchronization.
  • Communicate range and bearing parameters to radar operators to support precise target tracking during live-fire, simulation, test, and training events.
  • Participate in pre-operation briefings to understand operation objectives, test scenarios, and instrumentation requirements.
  • Support pre-operation checkouts of tracking radars, assign tracking parameters and beacon codes, and coordinate communications checks with support personnel.
  • Coordinate real-time tracking system support across operational teams, including Test Conductors, Range Safety personnel, radar operators, and range users.
  • Ensure range-supporting capabilities are operational and report readiness prior to the start of events.
  • Attend post-operation briefings to report on instrumentation services provided and identify operational improvements.
  • Organize computer input and output of data and coordinate inputs/data in support of contractual and operational requirements.
  • Manage physical and digital media, including computer disks, video recordings, hardcopies, and other operational materials, ensuring proper labeling and handling in accordance with security requirements.
  • Maintain operational logs documenting radar assignments, video/data recordings, hardcopy distributions, system anomalies, and mission-related activity.
  • Support secure storage, transfer, and disposition of classified or sensitive materials generated during operations.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and report system, radar tracking, hardware, software, or data anomalies to supervisors and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide technical support to computer users and assist with operational hardware, software, and computer equipment issues.
  • Analyze and recover program operations in complex error situations.
  • Provide general maintenance and installation support for computer equipment.
  • Establish and maintain filing systems, databases, tracking tools, and inventory records related to operational data and system information.
  • Provide direct customer interface to identify, document, and support database, display, tracking, and operational requirements.
  • Recommend solutions to operational shortfalls, system errors, data flow issues, and display capability needs.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and technical personnel by identifying potential display system enhancements, functionality improvements, and user interface needs.
  • Support testing of CDS software updates against requirements to validate operational capability, as assigned.
  • Develop, process, and submit data reports for technical presentations, meetings, and operational reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required.
  • Travel to remote company work locations may be required.

Requirements Required:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs, including Windows.
  • Ability to operate, monitor, and support computer-based systems in an operational environment.
  • Ability to support real-time operations, tracking/display activities, communications checks, and data/media handling requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to verify data accuracy, maintain logs, and identify system anomalies.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and support time-sensitive operational events.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively with Test Conductors, Range Safety personnel, engineers, radar operators, technical teams, and customer representatives.

Desired:

  • Experience supporting test range, military, aviation, weapons system, or operational control room environments.
  • Experience with tracking systems, radar coordination, display systems, real-time data feeds, or mission support operations.
  • Experience handling classified or sensitive materials in accordance with security requirements.
  • Prior military, technical, or range operations experience.

Education:

  • Vocational/technical or military equivalent training beyond high school and a minimum of five years of job-related experience are required for this position.

Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance.
