Job description

Metropolitan Police Officers employed by Events DC to serve at its venues (i.e., Entertainment and Sports Arena, Walter E. Washington Convention Center, RFK Stadium, DC Armory, Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square, and St. Elizabeth Hospital Campus) report to the chain of command of the Security Director or Security Manager. They primarily support Security Operations personnel (Security Services and/or Transportation Services) and deter criminal activity at Events DC venues. This role applies to day-to-day exterior and interior venue operations. All Metropolitan Police Officers anticipate, prevent, and act to protect employees and customers against disorder, unsafe conditions, and/or criminal activity on venue property.ย

  • Assistsย inย theย inspectionย ofย permits,ย directingย personsย andย vehicle operatorsย to authorized locations.
  • Mayย assist,ย asย necessary,ย toย mitigate issuesย involvingย disruptiveย orย unrulyย guests, to include removal of persons from a venue.
  • Assessesย andย implementsย laws,ย regulations,ย andย venue-specificย guidelines regarding the possession of firearms by certain individuals.
  • Anticipates,ย prevents,ย andย takesย appropriateย actionย toย protect againstย criminal activity on venue loading docks.
  • Assistsย inย theย developmentย ofย theย security planย toย maintainย orderย andย respondย in the event of emergencies.
  • Participates,ย ifย needed, asย partย ofย theย courtย andย bench perimeterย securityย teamย as prescribed by the venue and/or NBA league security requirements.
  • Participates,ย asย required,ย asย theย MPDย representativeย atย allย NBAย gameย referee security briefings or other event security briefings.
  • Mayย assistย inย securingย areas occupiedย byย talent, performers,ย VIPย guests, etc.ย as required by the Director or Manager of Security.
  • Assistsย inย theย developmentย andย executionย ofย anyย security relatedย plansย and responses, as appropriate.
  • Assists in the confiscation or recovery of contraband, as appropriate, during patronย screeningย orย otherย interactions.ย Disposesย ofย contrabandย consistentย with departmental requirements.
  • Liaises between the venue security operators and MPD as necessary or warranted,ย applyingย his/her expertiseย andย knowledge ofย policeย proceduresย to the circumstances to achieve the desired outcome.
