Job description

The Development Intern will assist the Development team with administrative tasks behind day-to-day non-profit management. The Development intern will assist in volunteer outreach, donor relations, event production, and various clerical tasks. This internship allows opportunity to build applied technological skills in data entry, mail merges, and CRM software; as well as creative opportunities in writing, revising, and drafting various marketing content and flyers.

With support from the Development team, the Development Intern is given direct access into the managerial and organizational side of non-profit management. The Development Intern will learn about processes of in-kind and monetary donations, distributing resources across programs and departments, and database and software management. The Development Intern will work across nearly all departments and programs at Transition Projects, building applicable skills while working towards a valuable cause. As Development Intern, you will be doing valuable work in helping people experiencing homelessness access the necessary programs and resources.

This role requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours a week for 6 months (Nov-Apr)

Potential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Senior Development Manager and Volunteer Program Manager in tasks related to volunteer outreach, donor relations, fundraising, and event planning.
  2. Maintain donation information by logging in-kind donations, filing receipts, and preparing thank-you letters in an accurate, timely, and professional manner.
  3. Maintain volunteer information by inputting new volunteer data, and assisting with new volunteer orientation.
  4. Working with CRM software such as Volgistics and Raiser’s Edge.
  5. Assist the Development team in preparing for large-scale events, drafting and distributing event materials, managing guest and attendee contact lists, and follow-up communication post-event.
  6. Assist the Development Associate with staff meetings, volunteer orientations, as well as attend activities, events, and meetings lead by Transition Projects, as directed.
  7. Complete research activities in order to provide recommendations for updated documents and materials, as directed.
  8. Proofread materials, update documents with correct and necessary information, and prepare items for distribution.
  9. Maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality in dealing with potentially sensitive information.
  10. Act as a professional representative of the Development Team and Transition Projects, upholding values reflective of the organization’s mission statement.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
