The Association of Former Students engages and inspires the Aggie Network for Texas A&M University in perpetuating the Aggie Spirit. Through our Annual Fund, as well as other revenue streams, we provide scholarships, endowments, emergency student loans, and awards for faculty excellence. Our newest colleague will join our Events team to help set up, run, and provide hands-on service for events, ensuring every detail supports a seamless and memorable experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follow detailed instructions.

  • Perform basic, routine tasks with possibly minimal instructions depending on circumstances.

  • Positively represent The Association through customer-focused interactions and by treating others with courtesy and respect.

ROUTINE DUTIES

Assist The Association's Events Department with setup and tear-down of various events for students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of Texas A&M University:

  • Assist Events staff with preparing rooms for meetings, events, conferences.
  • Maintain the agreed-upon work schedule including special events such as Distinguished Alumni Gala, Aggie Ring Days, Class Reunions, home Aggie football game days, and Board and Leadership Council meetings, which include some nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Communicate with management in a timely manner regarding unexpected lack of availability to work.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite at a basic level to accurately track equipment and supplies.
  • Setup and tear-down decor, tables, chairs, audio-visual equipment and other items.
  • Build good working relationships with customers through interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain storage areas and inventory pre- and post-event.
  • Work in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUMMER & FALL MANDATORY DATES

For multi-day events, Event Operation Student Assistants are required to work one shift per event, not all day on every day of the event. For example, for Ring Day, students are expected to work one shift on any day of event dates (October 9-10), typically around five hours.ย

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the dates listed above, students are expected to attend 1 monthly department meeting, fulfill 3 hours of office-hours each week, work 1 additional event shift of their choosing from our list of non-mandatory events, and work a portion of home football games. Events may require work on weekdays after 5 p.m., nights, weekends, game days, and some holidays.ย

EMPLOYEES OF THE ASSOCIATION OF FORMER STUDENTS

  • Participate in various Association-wide activities such as engagement and fundraising goals, internal event teams, task committees, attending gameday receptions, Distinguished Alumni Gala and other external events as required.
  • Serve as a representative by meeting our Team Expectations, fostering relationships with students and other constituents of Texas A&M.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required: Time management, detail-oriented and resourceful, with appropriate judgment and problem-solving skills. Reliable, punctual, flexible and willing to assist with a variety of tasks. Strong interpersonal skills that support customer service. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with the Texas A&M campus and surrounding area.

Preferred: Valid driver's license.ย 


PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS

This position meets the criteria for Medium work, and requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing 26 to 50 pounds on an occasional basis, and frequently lift items up to 25 pounds. The position requires standing, walking, bending, reaching for extended periods and sometimes climbing or balancing. May involve moderate physical exertion with tasks that require pushing, pulling, or lifting throughout the workday.ย

EXPERIENCE

Required: None.

Preferred: Previous similar involvement such as through volunteering, student government, extracurricular groups and teams, or equivalent engagement. Previous experience of at least six (6) months of paid part-time work experience. Previous experience working with events planning or within the hospitality industry.


EDUCATION & TRAINING

Required:ย 

Preferred: Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Hotel Management & Tourism, Sport Management, or a similar degree at Texas A&M University.
