Job description

This position will support the development of a basic understanding of healthcare delivery through the lens of operations systems and functions. This position is a general orientation to healthcare operations and used as an experience to expose interns to career options and education pathways in healthcare. The internโ€™s learning experience will utilize observation, frequent collaboration with leaders and staff in healthcare operations, and participating in projects or completion of assigned work. Assigned topics and level of complexity will be determined based on the internโ€™s interest and skills.

Operations leadership will identify at least one primary project for the internโ€™s participation while supporting opportunities that align with the internโ€™s healthcare learning goals. The COO may delegate the reporting structure to other leaders based on project selection.
Observational Learning

Based on the internโ€™s key goals and objectives for their experience with Mosaic, the following observation opportunities will support the learning experience. Learning objectives will augment the value of the observation periods to optimize the experience. Observation assignments may include:

  • Call Center
  • Patient Service Representatives
  • Medical Assistants
  • Registered Nurses
  • Community Health Workers
  • Clinical Risk Management
  • Mobile or Street Medicine Team
  • Operations Leaders
  • Internal Quality Committee

Interns will not observe sensitive patient interactions or be permitted to provide direct patient care. Interns, with the assistance of staff members, will gain verbal consent from the patient to be present during care activities.

Event Participation

  • Participate in unique events such as Board of Director visits to clinics and Patient Advisory council meetings.
  • Participate with Continuous Improvement or Strategic projects as available or applicable.

Key Project Assignment

  • Develop key elements of an assigned project identified as an appropriate level of exploration, learning, and applied skills for the intern.
  • Examples of projects are mapping clinical workflow processes, observational data collection or compliance audits, assessing and developing improvement proposals within a delivery system function such as supply chain, developing a community health or care team integration proposal, supporting an employee health initiative, or assessing and developing a plan for safety improvement.

Education, certification and licensure: High School Diploma or equivalent. Associateโ€™s degree (AA/AS) in healthcare, or related field preferred. Equivalent training, continuing education, and/or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge: Experience in a healthcare setting as a volunteer or intern. Familiar with standard project management or continuous improvement techniques. Familiarity with survey research methods. Familiarity with public health/community health models of healthcare delivery.
