Responsibility:

The Workplace Skills Instructor reports to the Skills Training Manager and works closely with the Skills Training Coordinators, Facilitators, Instructors, participants, and community partners.

This position is responsible for supporting program participants through the instruction and facilitation of our Workplace Skills curriculum, which includes extensive modules in essential skills, communication skills, and job search skills. The curriculum is delivered through in-person (primarily) and blended learning formats and utilizes engaging activities, assignments, visuals, accurate subject content, and other learning aids to meet the needs of participants with diverse backgrounds and learning abilities.

The Workplace Skills Instructor collaborates with other instructors and the Curriculum & Learning team to support the ongoing development and refinement of the curriculum, as needed.

Outcomes:

  • Successfully delivered outcomes-focused program using current and consistent curriculum, based on the needs of the target population.
  • Using the Momentum Workplace Skills Curriculum, deliver highly interactive lessons to equip participants with the essential skills required to be successful in academic and work settings.
  • Using the Workplace Skills Curriculum, guide program participants through the job search process; support the development of their employment profile documents and build interview skills.
  • Cultivate and build rapport quickly with all learning participants to foster engagement in the lessons and activities to meet learningobjectives.
  • Monitor participant progress and attendance.Collaborate with the Skills team toidentifyand provide anyadditionalsupport participants may need.
  • Developproficiencyin Momentum's learning management system, D2LLearnspace, for in-person, blended and online learning delivery to support participant engagement and success.

Evaluation and Reporting

Outcome:

Effective and efficient evaluation and reporting procedures.

  • Work with program facilitators and Coordinator to conduct participant evaluation.
  • Ensure the Skills Coordinator is aware ofprogramand participant successes and challenges.

Outcomes:

The programs are connected within the Skills Training Department,Momentumand the broader community.

  • Ensure Momentum's values are reflected in the work.
  • Contribute to Momentum's culture and shared accountability by working collaboratively with others and pitching in to get things done beyond the scope of one's own role.
  • Participate in team, Momentum and community meetings, committees, activities, and events as capacity allows.


Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • Degree or certification in education, social work, or a relevant field, or related experience.
  • 5 years of experience as a teacher, instructor, or facilitator.
  • Strong facilitation skills, both online and in person, rooted in adult education principles.
  • Excellent understanding of workplace success skills and essential skills.
  • Well-developed writing skills with knowledge of plain language principles.
  • Experience working with individuals living on low incomes with multiple barriers.
  • Knowledge of human-centered and trauma-informed practices and values.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, planning, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Proficiency in technology tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet systems.
  • Experience using an online Learning Management System (e.g., D2L Brightspace) for program delivery.
  • Non-profit experience is an asset.

Program Schedule & Estimated Hours

Skills Training programs are delivered during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.). Programs range from 4-12 weeks in length and consist of 3-hour classes (morning or afternoon), including a 15-minute break. Approximately 10 programs are offered annually, with varying start dates. At times, 1-3 programs may run concurrently.

As a casual Workplace Skills Instructor, you can expect approximately 25-45 instructional hours per program, depending on program length, scheduling needs, and your availability.
