Job description

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing and maintaining a clean and safe environment both inside and outside of the Shelter on a daily basis. Assure that all janitorial tasks for the building are completed in a satisfactory manner.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Assure that Daily/Weekly/Monthly Schedule of janitorial tasks for the building are completed in a satisfactory and timely manner per posted schedule, including ensuring that all staff and common area bathrooms are clean and have sufficient personal supplies on a daily basis.
  • Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors and stairways.
  • Empty all dining room, kitchen, office and common area trash cans, clean receptacles and replace liners.
  • Clean dining room, office and common area windowsills and windows on a daily basis
  • Clean program participant's bathroom on second and third floors on a daily basis
  • Restock supplies in storage rooms and common areas.
  • Maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
  • Store janitorial supplies in proper location maintain inventory of all janitorial supplies and submits order requests to supervisor.
  • Maintain maintenance check list while monitoring building for needed repairs, equipment and supplies
  • Clean and maintain any weather-related conditions; such as flooding, snow and ice, etc.
SECONDARY DUTIES
  • General maintenance of the grounds.
  • Observe and inspect building for needed repairs and report needs to Supervisor.
  • Assist with the receiving of donations, food orders, and other deliveries as needed.
  • Assist staff with janitorial and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Attend and fully participates in all staff meetings as required.
  • Assist with and attend special events held by the Center and St. Vincent de Paul as necessary.
  • Uphold the vision, mission, and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Create an atmosphere of care and respect for clients.
  • Other duties as assigned, within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 2 years janitorial experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate in a courteous, non-judgmental manner with persons from all ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds.
  • Desire and ability to work as a team player.
  • Pleasant and courteous telephone manner.
