Description
The Store Manager will assist in overseeing all aspects of daily store operations including employees, profit/sales, effective cost control, customer satisfaction and standards for the entire store. All duties will be performed in a manner that will help achieve the Medford Cooperative's mission and goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead employees by positive example in all actions and communications.
  • Oversee each departments' schedules to ensure that we are providing customers with the best shopping experience while obtaining expected budgets.
  • Achieve budgeted financial goals and ensure profitability through the tracking of costs/sales and the execution of marketing plans, product promotions, product displays and cost control techniques.
  • Review monthly Profit and Loss statements to ensure store is running efficiently and on budget. Make any appropriate changes if needed in order to ensure goals are met.
  • Achieve a high level of understanding of the scanning & receiving process and the back-office system up to and including: managing ad batches, vendor price files, margins etc.
  • Basic understanding of building ads: working with the cooperative team and vendors on promotions and their implementation.
  • Oversee all areas of the store, consistently leading by example and applying effective management techniques.
  • Manage and train employees; including, but not limited to coaching, performance improvement, recognition, 1:1 meetings and feedback.
  • Communicate with management and Human Resources in regards to department hiring needs, employee relations, employee accidents/injuries, department conditions, and other concerns as needed.
  • Participate in the interviewing process for store personnel.
  • Serve customers throughout the store while modeling a service-oriented culture and providing "best in class" customer service, which includes, greeting, engaging, and thanking every guest for their business.
  • Provide consistent, timely and friendly customer service when answering questions, making suggestions and resolving complaints.
  • Monitor inventory controls for every department and sustain a high level of product knowledge.
  • Assist with store promotional sales events as needed and other duties as assigned.
  • Work with vendors for best position on products, displays and ad planning.
  • Ensure that each department is always full and fresh with the best quality products, organized sanitary and overall upkeep of equipment and appearance is well maintained.
  • Connect daily with each department to review daily schedule, department conditions and determine where assistance may be needed; providing hands-on assistance as needed.
  • Assist to create attractive department displays and end caps based on specific sales for the week.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment throughout the property by adhering to safety/sanitation regulations and procedures. Basic understanding of building and equipment maintenance.
  • Must know and perform other duties as required, including but not limited to: cashier, courtesy, general housekeeping, shelf management, office tasks and daily bookkeeping.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience Required:
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years Customer Service Management experience in grocery or retail environment.
  • Preferred 5-7 years grocery retail experience in overall store operations.
  • Regularly scheduled travel to other Medford Cooperative locations will be required for educational purposes.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to provide clear direction and delegate responsibilities to a team after determining department needs
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions, priorities and circumstances

  • Strong sense of urgency, time management, prioritization and multitasking skills
  • Strong sense of team - ability to anticipate the needs of the team
  • Strong computer skills, working knowledge in Microsoft Office product suite

  • Ability to accommodate a fluctuating schedule, including evening, weekend and holiday shifts

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires this candidate to work 45 hours per week in this full-time position.
Schedule includes weekends and holidays, flexibility is essential.
Lift 50lbs occasionally, lift 20lbs regularly.
Stand and walk for the duration of work shift. Sitting occasionally.
Smoke-free environment.
This position is primarily indoors but at times may be exposed to heat/cool outdoor temperatures as well as when entering coolers.
