This position performs those tasks needed for maintenance and improvement of commercial properties. Working under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Technician, or Lead Technician, the employee performs work involving the use of tools such as saws, drills, pressure washers, paint sprayers and other maintenance equipment needed to undertake common tasks involved in routine maintenance and improvement projects. This position will support maintenance and facilities repairs at the Qavartarvik Customer Lodge in Bethel, AK.
This is a rotational position working a 3-week on & 3-week off schedule in Bethel, AK. The point of hire origins are Anchorage, AK and the YKHC Service Area.
Responsibilities
  • Makes repairs and alterations to drywall, wainscoting and FRP.
  • Paints large and small spaces with roller, brush and paint sprayer.
  • Repairs and replaces carpet, carpet tile and vinyl flooring.
  • Repairs and replaces doors and windows.
  • Operates pressure washers in interior and exterior spaces.
  • Operate diesel generator and space heating equipment for bed bug eradication.
  • Cargo pick-up runs and staff shuttling to and from the airport.
  • Repairs and replaces locks and exit hardware.
  • Repairs merchandise and mobility assistance carts.
  • Assist's lead technician in other building maintenance related duties as assigned.
  • Inventories tools, bench stock and supplies.
  • Loads and unload supplies both manually and with the use of equipment.
  • Cleans work areas daily.
  • Follow all company safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned that are pertinent to the unit's success.
  • Position may involve working evening or weekend work on an as needed basis and can change short notice to meet client requests.
  • May be required to respond during off duty hours.

Qualifications
  • Some prior work experience that involved general labor in and/or around facility maintenance skilled trades, i.e., Carpentry, Locksmith, Electrical, Plumbing etc.
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
  • Safety is a priority for employment with NMS. Employee must be able to complete work while following safe operating procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Some type of prior training, work experience, or demonstrable skills which indicate a suitability for this type of work.
  • Contract requires candidate to get a flu shot pre-hire and annually thereafter.

  • Basic knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of motorized equipment.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoor/Outdoor (Occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions); requires work to be done both inside and outside.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: 25% - travel to and from site location for rotational shift
