Job description

Security Officer

Part Time Security Officer Position: W71220 Hourly Rate: $18.30 per hour

Availability for Day Shift: 7a-3p, Evening Shift: 3p- 11p, and Midnight Shift 11p-7a

This position is a wage position and is limited to 29 hours per week with no benefits, not to exceed 1500 hours per year. Join a Top-Shelf Team! The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking qualified applicants for the part time Security Officer positions. The Security Officer position is responsible for a multiple range of administrative and security duties for the efficient flow of Agency employees, non-Agency personnel and customers while conducting business within the Office and Warehouse Complex to include: access controls relating to the ingress and egress of personnel, vehicles and packages; security patrols; maintenance checks of the facility security, fire and operational systems; investigation of safety and security issues, alarms and breaches of security; and upon request provides assistance to local law enforcement and fire officials. Security Officers are subject to work any shift assignment.

Job Duties and Qualifications

Duties include conducting walking patrol tours of the complex interior and exterior lots in accordance with established policies and procedures; the inspection of related security, fire, HVAC and electrical systems; the monitoring of access control and fire systems; the ability to respond quickly to critical events or emergencies; the timely notification of appropriate services and/or personnel as circumstances may dictate; and the preparation and submission of appropriate incident reports and shift activity logs. The Security Officer is also responsible for providing a high level of customer service skill in person and by telephone, serving as the agency's first point of contact for internal and external customers.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Virginia driver's license required.
  • Applicants must have comprehensive working knowledge of safety and security concepts, security principles and practices; law enforcement and investigative techniques; and fire prevention and protection procedures.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with coworkers, agency staff, outside agency personnel and the general public.
  • Skill in use of operating a multi-line telephone system security equipment, personal computer and software applications including Microsoft applications; electronic fire and security alarm systems and equipment; operation of motor vehicles; use of defensive tactics and skills in proper response techniques to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing; resolve problems and make sound decisions in adverse situations in compliance with agency directives and protocols; work in adverse weather conditions; prioritize work related events; and to establish rapport and build consensus with Authority, Bureau and Security Division, outside agency personnel and the public.
  • Must be available to work any one of three required shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Experience as a law enforcement officer or security officer, or the equivalent combination of experience and education in either or both professions.
  • Ability to be certified under Department of Criminal Justice System standards for Unarmed Security Officer.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position which may require extended periods of standing or sitting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DCJS basic level certification is preferred.
  • High school education or the equivalent.
