Location: Camp Keystone, Starke, Florida
Position Type: Temporary Full-Time
About this opportunity:
Plans, coordinates and directs the functions of the Camp Conservatory Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides quality music instruction to campers.
- Teaches music theory as it applies to the appropriate level for playing purposes.
- Provides appropriate lessons for instruction time.
- Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary.
- Be responsible for the care of instruments during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Divisional Music Director.
- Prepares students for recitals, presentations and concerts.
- Plans, schedules, assign and monitor the students work in progress and upon competition to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Recommends and develops activities which will develop musical abilities, motor and learning skills of students.
- Coordinates the program and activity within the policies and operating procedures of camp.
- Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all students to feel welcome and comfortable.
- Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
- Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
- Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
- Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed.
- Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
- Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
- Guides the work of bands and performance in helping children and youth to succeed in school by increasing their involvement and motivation, and helping them to set personal goals.
- Provides training and development of camper for band, conducting, performance and service learning.
- Supervises the maintenance and daily operations of the program equipment.
- Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
- Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
- Schedules performances and ensures that all necessary supplies for a performance are donated or purchased.
- Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for in you:
- Six months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred, or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
- CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Some physical requirements of the Camp Conservatory Music Sr. Instructor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information:
Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/2/2025 – 06/8/2025 and participation is required. The 2025 Summer Camp Program will be held 06/9/2025 – 07/12/2025. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
