What you will do:

The Non-CDL Escort Driver is responsible for safely escorting oversized loads of trusses, building components, and related materials from company facilities to customer jobsites. A valid escort license is required.  Operating a company escort vehicle, this role works closely with CDL Drivers, Dispatch, Transportation, and jobsite personnel to support the safe and timely movement of oversized loads while complying with applicable escort, traffic, and transportation requirements. The Non-CDL Escort Driver assists with route navigation, intersections, construction areas, and other challenging roadway or jobsite conditions while maintaining professional communication with drivers, customers, and the public. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, attentive, and comfortable driving throughout the day in changing traffic and weather conditions.

Oversized Load Escorting

  • Safely escort commercial vehicles transporting oversized trusses, building components, and related materials to customer jobsites
  • Operate a company non-CDL escort vehicle in accordance with applicable traffic laws, permit requirements, and company policies
  • Follow all applicable oversized-load and escort vehicle regulations
  • Maintain appropriate positioning ahead of or behind oversized loads as required
  • Assist commercial drivers with navigating intersections, construction zones, narrow roads, tight locations, and other roadway challenges
  • Remain alert to traffic, roadway conditions, overhead or roadside hazards, and other conditions that could affect safe load movement
  • Communicate potential hazards or route concerns to the commercial driver promptly

Driver & Dispatch Coordination

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with CDL Drivers throughout assigned routes
  • Coordinate with Dispatch regarding routes, schedules, delivery priorities, delays, and changing road conditions
  • Communicate with jobsite personnel regarding load arrival and site accessibility when required
  • Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules while adapting appropriately to traffic, weather, construction, or other unexpected conditions
  • Notify Dispatch promptly of delays, incidents, unsafe conditions, or other issues that may affect delivery
  • Support efficient delivery operations while maintaining safety as the highest priority

Vehicle & Safety Equipment

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned escort vehicles
  • Verify required escort signs, flags, lights, communication devices, and other safety equipment are present and operational before departure
  • Maintain assigned vehicles and safety equipment in clean, organized, and serviceable condition
  • Report vehicle damage, mechanical concerns, missing equipment, or safety issues promptly
  • Maintain required documentation and equipment according to applicable escort regulations and company procedures

Documentation & Customer Service

  • Complete required trip, route, delivery, inspection, and escort documentation accurately and on time
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, contractors, drivers, law enforcement, jobsite personnel, and members of the public
  • Represent QXO professionally while operating company vehicles and supporting deliveries
  • Provide courteous and responsive service during customer and jobsite interactions
  • Protect company vehicles, equipment, and other assets throughout assigned routes

Operational Support

  • Assist Transportation and Operations teams with delivery-related activities when not actively escorting loads
  • Support vehicle preparation, delivery documentation, and general transportation operations as assigned
  • Maintain awareness of scheduled loads and transportation priorities
  • Participate in required driver, safety, and regulatory training
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, applicable transportation regulations, and safe-driving requirements
  • Maintain a safety-first mindset while operating company vehicles and escorting oversized loads
  • Follow applicable state and local escort vehicle requirements
  • Adjust driving practices appropriately for traffic, weather, construction, and roadway conditions
  • Immediately report accidents, vehicle damage, unsafe conditions, near misses, or other safety concerns
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, and qualifications for the position
What you will bring:
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • Acceptable driving record in accordance with company requirements
  • Valid Escort Driver Certification where required for assigned operations
  • Ability to meet applicable company driver qualification requirements
  • Ability to safely operate a non-CDL company vehicle
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned delivery territory
  • Ability to communicate effectively using mobile phones, radios, or other company communication devices
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous escort, pilot car, delivery, transportation, construction, or building materials experience preferred
  • Experience supporting oversized or specialized loads is a plus
  • Familiarity with trusses, lumber, building components, or construction materials preferred
  • Knowledge of construction jobsites and delivery operations is a plus
  • Previous experience operating company vehicles in local delivery environments preferred
  • Work is performed primarily on public roadways and at residential and commercial construction sites
  • Significant time is spent driving and sitting in a company vehicle
  • Frequent exposure to changing weather, traffic, construction zones, uneven terrain, dust, noise, and active jobsites
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform basic physical activities associated with vehicle inspection and transportation support
  • Occasional lifting or movement of signs, flags, safety equipment, and other transportation supplies may be required
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Required PPE must be worn when entering jobsites, yards, warehouses, or other designated operational areas
  • Early morning starts, overtime, or schedule flexibility may be required based on delivery schedules and oversized-load requirements
  • Local or regional travel is required; positions may generally return home daily depending on assigned routes
