Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Department of Biology as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Summer 2026.
The Research Assistant will support the ongoing research efforts in the laboratory Dr. Lisa D. Brown.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities
  • Assists in immunological research on cat fleas that involves both organismal manipulations and microbial assays
  • Leads an independent research project investigating the antibacterial responses of cat fleas
  • Plans and coordinates the day-to-day activities of their study
  • Assists with data management, statistical analyses, and manuscript preparation

Shift Specifics
  • Up to 10 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience working with cat fleas in a research laboratory
  • Proven proficiency in microbiology and molecular techniques
  • Experience working in a group setting and independently
  • Previous experience maintaining a laboratory colony of cat fleas

Proposed Salary
$12.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
