Position Overview

We are seeking a technical and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Lead (MLT, MT, or MLS) to guide our evening shift diagnostic testing operations.

In this dual-functioning role, you will perform a wide range of sophisticated laboratory tests and procedures that assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Additionally, as a Shift Lead, you will serve as the primary point of contact for evening laboratory operations, ensuring strict adherence to quality control standards, managing workflow efficiency, and troubleshooting complex laboratory instruments when technical challenges arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shift Leadership & Workflow: Oversee evening laboratory operations, coordinate daily testing priorities, and ensure efficient sample processing and turnaround times.

  • High-Complex Diagnostic Testing: Perform accurate laboratory testing across key specialties (including chemistry, hematology, blood bank, and microbiology) in compliance with hospital and CLIA guidelines.

  • Quality Control Oversight: Maintain strict adherence to established quality control protocols, document equipment maintenance, and review data to ensure full regulatory compliance.

  • Advanced Instrumentation Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary technical resource for calibrating, maintaining, and resolving issues with sophisticated laboratory analyzers.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Communicate effectively with laboratory leadership, phlebotomists, and floor nursing staff regarding critical values, sample integrity, and testing inquiries.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience Level: Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred, but motivated graduates with strong technical and leadership potential are welcome to apply.

Path 1: For MLT Lead Candidates (Associate Level)
  • Education (One of the following):

    • Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program (including chemistry and biology).

    • Associate degree (at least 60 semester hours) including chemistry and biology, plus a 12-month structured curriculum in medical laboratory techniques.

    • Graduation from a military medical laboratory training program of at least 12 months duration.

  • Certification Requirements:

    • Certification eligibility as an MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) required for individuals certified in 2004 or later. (Registry recommended within 12 months of graduation).

    • Note: Individuals qualified prior to Dec 31, 2003, are exempt from maintaining yearly certification.

Path 2: For MT / MLS Lead Candidates (Bachelor Level)
  • Education (One of the following):

    • Baccalaureate degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.

    • Completion of an approved ASCP (or equivalent) certification pathway, or satisfied CLIA requirements for HEW certification.

    • Must have completed one year in an accredited laboratory training program.

  • Certification Requirements:

    • Certification eligibility as an MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) required for individuals certified in 2004 or later. (Certification preferred within 12 months of graduation).

    • Note: Individuals qualified prior to Dec 31, 2003, are exempt from maintaining yearly certification.
