Position Overview
Position Summary
Under the strategic oversight of the Communication Technology Director and the direct supervision of the Communication Technology Assistant Director, the Web Developer designs, develops, implements and maintains web applications and related technologies that support the University's mission and strategic objectives. Working collaboratively with the Office of Communication Services and the Office of Advancement and Public Relations team, the Web Developer applies professional judgment and technical expertise to develop user-centered web solutions, improve business processes and ensure the reliability, accessibility, security and performance of the University's web presence.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain web applications, websites, and related technologies
  • Analyze and recommend technical solutions that improve user experience and organizational effectiveness
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements, priorities, timelines, and deliverables
  • Develop and maintain integrations with enterprise systems, databases, and third-party applications as appropriate
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex web application and website issues, including browser compatibility, accessibility, and performance
  • Provide technical guidance and documentation related to web development projects
  • Complete assigned service-request tickets and maintenance activities to help keep the website up to date in a timely manner
  • Participate in departmental strategic planning, project planning, and continuous improvement initiatives related to the University's digital presence
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, Digital Media, or a related field) and two years of professional experience designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining websites or web applications, including content management; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS) and maintaining website content.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams while providing excellent customer service.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of open-source content management systems
  • Skill in translating UI/UX designs into functional web pages
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Understanding of Bootstrap, Tailwind, or other CSS frameworks
  • Understanding of JQuery/React/Angular or other JavaScript libraries
  • Ability to work independently, while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project prioritization skills
  • Basic understanding of MySQL or other databases
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to effectively multitask and shift priorities easily
  • Basic understanding of SEO fundamentals and web accessibility standards (WCAG)
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, adapt to changing priorities, and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, attention to detail, creativity, and initiative in carrying out assigned responsibilities

Working Conditions
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
  • Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment during standard business hours. Some evening and weekend work is required to support events, meetings, and other activities
  • The position requires occasional work outdoors in varying weather conditions while supporting events and related activities
  • Work requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
