Position Overview

The Headway Behavioral Center is seeking a dedicated and fully licensed Geriatric Mental Health Counselor to join our team as a full-time remote therapist. This position offers a unique opportunity to focus on improving the mental health of older adults through specialized therapy. The successful candidate will conduct assessments, develop tailored treatment plans, and provide various therapeutic interventions, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for our geriatric clientele.

About the Organization

Headway Behavioral Center, located in Fresno, California, is committed to providing comprehensive mental health services tailored to the needs of older adults. Our expert team focuses on common geriatric issues such as depression, anxiety, dementia-related disorders, and adjustment issues. We strive to create a supportive and collaborative environment that empowers our patients and promotes their mental well-being.

Work Environment

This position is fully remote, allowing for flexibility while ensuring that our therapists can deliver essential mental health services to patients in a community health clinic setting. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional evening shifts required to adapt to patient needs. As part of a vibrant, multidisciplinary team including geriatric psychiatrists, our therapists benefit from a collaborative atmosphere designed for comprehensive patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough mental health assessments that consider the cognitive, emotional, and physical needs of each older adult patient.
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices tailored to geriatric patients' unique circumstances.
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions such as individual therapy, family therapy, and group sessions that are specifically aimed at addressing geriatric psychiatric conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with geriatric psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure an integrated and holistic approach to patient care.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during mental health emergencies involving elderly patients, ensuring rapid response and effective management.
  • Facilitate educational sessions for patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient documentation that adheres to legal and ethical standards, utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Engage in regular team meetings and case consultations to enhance treatment strategies and support professional development.
  • Stay current with research and advances in geriatric psychiatry to ensure best practices in client care.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Our primary focus is on serving the geriatric population, who often navigate complex mental health issues influenced by age, physical health changes, and social factors. We address common conditions like depression, anxiety, and dementia disorders while recognizing the unique life experiences of our elderly patients. This position presents an opportunity to make a tangible impact on their quality of life, helping them manage their conditions and improve their overall mental wellness.

Qualifications
  • A master's or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure as an LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT in California is mandatory.
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure experience is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of geriatric mental health disorders and proficiency in evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Experience delivering therapeutic services to older adults and their families.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a patient-centered, empathetic approach.
  • Ability to build rapport with elderly patients and effectively engage families in the treatment process.
  • Proficient in EHR systems and computer applications relevant to mental health documentation.
  • A collaborative spirit, willing to work within a multidisciplinary team framework.
Preferred Experience

We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in geriatric therapy, including specific training in cognitive behavioral therapy techniques relevant for older adults. Additional certifications in trauma-informed care or specialized therapeutic approaches for dementia patients will be beneficial and valued.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is competitive, offering $115,000 to $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Employees at Headway Behavioral Center are provided with a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare coverage, retirement savings plans with employer contributions, generous paid time off (PTO), professional liability insurance, and support for continuing education opportunities.
