Job Summary:
This position assures supervision and safety of the residents and facility. Under the direction of the mental health professional, the mental health practitioner provides direct supportive services (mental health and chemical health) and emergency intervention when needed. Tasks include resident education on mental health issues, completing crisis assessments, various screenings tools, providing coping skill education and modeling (deep breathing, muscle relaxation, distraction, visualization, etc.), and prompting and observing residents to meet their activities of daily living. Complete professional documentation of client interaction. Coordinate and communicate with relevant professionals related to the care and well-being of the residents.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Respond immediately to emergency situations following established policies and procedures.
- Closely monitor activities throughout the facility and conduct periodic room checks.
- Facilitate individual and group interventions and educational lessons using Enhanced Illness Management and Recovery (E-IMR) or BRITE curriculums or materials provided by the Treatment Director.
- Provide a supportive recovery environment and strengths-based perspective with all residents.
- Assist with the daily functions of the facility, including but not limited to clear documentation, maintain confidentiality, assisting with admissions and discharges, ordering supplies, tracking schedules and appointments, completing agency and county forms, agency and DHS reports, some data tracking, management of petty cash and activity funds, and maintaining electronic health records.
- Prompt and assist residents in independent daily living skills, organization, and cleaning of resident rooms, social activities, and healthy exercise.
- Maintain safe access to and supervise residents as they take medications to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Support the operation of the program which includes pick up and set up meals from the contracted vendor, properly store food, clean up the kitchen and dining room following each meal, provide timely transportation of residents to access health-related or essential services, and as needed cleaning (vacuuming, dusting, mopping kitchen and bathroom floors, launder the towels and linens)
- Ensure personal and professional growth through professional reading, attendance at workshops, seminars and conferences while maintaining appropriate requirements for one's specific development.
- Provide on-call coverage.

Education and Experience:
1. Must pass required Applicant Background check
2. Meets the standards for Mental Health Practitioner per DHS guidelines as listed below.
• Meet at least one of the following criteria:
o An individual is qualified as a mental health practitioner through relevant coursework if the individual completes at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and: Has at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with:
• A mental illness or a substance use disorder; or
• A traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to a client;
o Is fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50 percent of the individual's clients belong, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to a client;
OR
o An individual is qualified as a mental health practitioner through work experience if the individual:
Has at least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to individuals with:
• A mental illness or a substance use disorder; or
• A traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to clients;
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to move about the building at a rapid pace in response to emergencies.
• Must be able to perceive, assess, and respond to resident needs rapidly and accurately.
• Must be able to work assigned shifts with alertness to resident and facility needs.
• Must be able to perform reaching and lifting activities of up to 30 pounds.
• Must be able to perform household cleaning duties to include mopping, dusting, plunging toilets, moving furniture, and keeping walkways safe and clear of snow and ice.
• Must maintain a valid Minnesota driving license with a safe record.
Work Environment:
• Mainly in the residential facility, moving throughout the building to address resident needs.
• Organizing and facilitating group outings into the community and in a variety of community settings.
• On property grounds, supervising residents, doing minor upkeep or when engaged in resident interactions outside.

Salary Description
$19.00 to $22.00
