Job description

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT: NATURAL SCIENCE
OVERVIEW
DeSales University, in Center Valley, PA, is a private, coeducational, four-year liberal arts Salesian, Catholic university, under the leadership of the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales. Founded in 1965, the 550-acre suburban campus is located 50 miles north of Philadelphia and about 90 miles southwest of New York City. A total enrollment of nearly 3,500 includes undergraduate day and evening students, and graduate students. DeSales has approximately 135 full-time faculty members and offers more than 40 bachelor's degrees, twelve graduate programs, and over 20 certificate programs in a wide range of disciplines; many of these can be completed fully online.

POSITION SUMMARY
Serves as the primary administrative support for the Chairpersons of the Biology and Chemistry Departments, and the didactic faculty in the respective programs of these departments; facilitates efficient operation of these programs. The Administrative Assistant is an energetic, amicable, flexible and highly organized individual.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School or equivalency required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
  • 2-3 year of related experience in a higher education environment or customer service-based industry
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and experience with database programs (Colleague preferred)
  • Possess and be able to use math skills to provide accurate financial and other data accounting
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Occasional attendance at program functions outside of standard work hours
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, balance competing responsibilities, and complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Sensitive to issues of ethnicity, disability and diversity
  • Dedicated to the mission of a small, Catholic, liberal arts institution
