Pharmacy Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the smooth and successful operation of the pharmacy department and the maintenance of all business-related functions at his/her respective center. He/She is responsible to compound and/or dispense commercially available prescribed drugs and other pharmaceutical items for patient care by performing all duties in both the adjudication and production work environments while providing direct supervision of Assistant Pharmacy Managers, Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Services Representatives, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Support Specialists performing pharmacy related duties.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintain all operations of the pharmacy department
  2. Dispense and verify prescriptions as required
  3. Follow all medication guidelines as well as policies and procedures for receiving, filling, dispensing, logging, maintaining loss prevention procedures, and avoiding diversion for all inventory including controlled medications
  4. Ensure that pharmacy policies as well as federal and state laws and regulations in all prescription related issues, including HIPAA, SOP, QA, and CQI, are followed
  5. Review and verify prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy, appropriateness, and determine formulas and ingredients needed
  6. Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, if applicable
  7. Provide counseling on both prescription medications/items and over the counter medications/items per company policy and as required by state and federal law
  8. Ensure that all control drug policies and procedures as required by state, federal, and organizational guidelines are followed
  9. Performs trouble shooting functions for third party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues
  10. Answer the telephone and assist at the front counter to maintain the workflow of the pharmacy.
  11. Manage and supervise pharmacy staff including: any staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  12. Responsible for ensuring that all required pharmacy, pharmacist, and pharmacy technician licenses/certifications/registrations are current and valid as required by state, federal and pharmacy guidelines.
  13. Maintain contact with providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes and promote effective drug therapy.
  14. Stay current with new and changing drug therapies and uses
  15. Responsible for the proper maintenance of pharmacy drug inventories
  16. Responsible for the proper storage of all pharmacy inventory
  17. Directs pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  18. Maintains a clean, neat and orderly pharmacy department at all times
  19. Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals as needed
  20. Actively engages patients and clients with respect to customer service programs offered by the pharmacy in an effort to grow pharmacy business and volume of prescriptions dispensed
  21. Actively engages patients and clients with respect to program integrations offered by the pharmacy
  22. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs
  23. Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory
  24. Maintains awareness of third party Rx systems and resolves third party rejection problems promptly, and resubmits rejected claims for payment on a timely basis
  25. Resolves and reports prescription errors immediately and adheres to company policy regarding medication incidents and continuous quality improvement
  26. Maintains awareness of loss prevention controls and procedures to identify and minimize profit loss.
  27. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with physicians and other health care professionals in order to better assist the patients
  28. Delivers accurate reports and assignments on time
  29. Complete all assigned projects and tasks accurately and on time
  30. Responsible for the success of any department inspections
  31. Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to and staff the pharmacy at other health center locations when necessary
  32. Participate in events outside of normal course of business as assigned
  33. Ability to work any work schedule as assigned by the organization which may include evening and/or weekend hours
  34. Must be able to provide support outside of regular business hours as required, including the ability to be on call as needed
  35. Provide department access outside of regular scheduled hours when needed in regards to the pharmacy department alarm system as well as maintenance that needs to be performed within the department
  36. Any other duties may be assigned (may include technician-related duties depending on available staff)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm. D. degree required.
  2. Current Florida Pharmacist License, active and in good standing, with a current Immunization Certification.
  3. 7 years of experience in a retail type community pharmacy (management experience required)
  4. BLS CPR Certification required and maintained current

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bilingual a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Ability to stand and or walk for extended periods of time
  2. Ability to view a computer screen for extended periods of time
  3. Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions for extended periods of time
  4. Ability to perform lifting and bending motions
  5. Ability to use a stepladder
  6. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
