Responsible for monitoring boiler and boiler functions. Maintains logs/records and performs safety checks on all devices


A day in the life of a Stationary Engineer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Operate engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Read gauges, meters, and charts to track boiler operations.
  • Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels. Activate valves to change the amount of water, air, and fuel in boilers.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently.
  • Check safety devices routinely. Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activity.
  • Supports the overall maintenance of patient rooms and the interior/exterior of the work environment which may include changing bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets etc., plumbing of toilets and sinks, nurse call repairs, repairs holes in walls, painting, changing ceiling tiles and moving furniture.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of boilers, gauges and valves 
  • 3-5 years general maintenance experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Previous Boiler Operator experience in a healthcare environmen

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Black Seal or Blue Seal or Red Seal or Gold Seal at SOMC, RMC and BMC (If incumbent has a Blue Seal or Red Seal or a Gold Seal, a Black Seal is not required.)
  • Blue Seal or Red Seal or Gold Seal at JSUMC and OUMC (If incumbent has a Red Seal or a Gold Seal, a Blue Seal is not required.)

Licenses and Certifications Preferred: 

  • Red or Gold Seal Operator License preferred.

Minimum rate of $26.63 Hourly
