Job description

Description The Muskego Public Library is hiring a part-time (20 hours a week) Children's Assistant position to fill a vacancy. This position's primary role is to provide administrative support for the Children's Department, including care of circulating children's kits, programming supplies, and the development of book bundles. Under the guidance of the Children's Librarian, and in collaboration with the Children's Assistant (full-time), this position provides programming support for children ages birth-12 and their families.

Examples of programming tasks include leading or helping in storytimes, leading a monthly LEGO club and scheduling LEGO club volunteers, assisting at special events, and creating marketing materials to advertise children's programs. This position also provides reference services and technology aid to patrons of all ages by staffing the reference desk as scheduled. In addition to morning hours (typically 8:30am-12:30pm) the position includes one evening per week (Mondays) and a Saturday rotation (typically one per month).

The Children's Assistant (part-time) position is a non-exempt, non-supervisory position and reports directly to the Head of Reference. The ideal candidate would have excellent public facing skills along with an ability to build and maintain community and patron relationships. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume as part of the completed City of Muskego application.

This position is eligible for pro-rated vacation time, sick time, and holiday pay. It is not eligible for insurance or retirement benefits. The position is open until filled with a first review of applications on 8/12/2026.
