Sports Dietician (RD/RDN)
Posting Summary
The Sports Dietitian is a high-impact member of the University of Vermont Division I Athletics team, dedicated to fueling the performance, recovery, and long-term health of student-athletes across all programs. This role provides cutting-edge, evidence-based nutrition guidance tailored to the unique demands of elite collegiate athletes, translating science into practical strategies that maximize strength, endurance, recovery, and overall wellbeing. This position is deeply integrated with Athletic Performance, Athletic Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Catamount Sports Psychology, and coaching staff, ensuring that nutrition is seamlessly aligned with training, competition, and travel demands. The Sports Dietitian will design and lead individualized nutrition plans, team fueling programs, and educational initiatives, equipping student-athletes with the knowledge and tools to perform at their highest level on and off the field.
Beyond performance, this role fosters holistic student-athlete development, empowering athletes to make informed nutrition choices that support academic success, mental health, and lifelong healthy habits. In addition, the Sports Dietician will be mindful of disordered eating behavior and RED -S within their integrated practice and approach in working with student athletes. The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for sports nutrition, excited to innovate, educate, and collaborate in a dynamic, high-energy Division I athletics environment. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of nutrition and performance at a competitive program with a strong commitment to athlete success and wellbeing. This position will collaborate closely with the Registered Dietician within Student Health Services to support student holistic and clinical needs, and the position may also take appointments for the general student population from Student Health Services. Following the medical model, this position is a member of the Athletic Medicine team within the Center for Health and Wellbeing, supporting student athletes.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Registered Dietitian (RD or RDN ) credential, eligible to practice in Vermont.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
  • Experience providing nutrition services to athletes or highly active populations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Knowledge of NCAA nutrition rules and supplement regulations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from all backgrounds and experiences.
  • The ability to obtain a Board-Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics ( CSSD ) in 2 years or already having the CSSD credential.
  • Comfortability working with students with disordered eating behavior and RED -S.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with Division I or high-level collegiate athletes.
  • Experience integrating nutrition programs with strength & conditioning and sports medicine teams.
  • Track record of program development, team education, or athlete performance optimization.
  • Experience working with students with disordered eating behavior and RED -S.

Anticipated Pay Range
$59,400-$66,000 (11-month term)
