Cytotechnologist - PD Evening

Job Summary: To process and screen exfoliated cells from body fluids.
Department: Laboratory - Histology
Location: Englewood, NJ
Status: Per Diem
Shift: Evening
Hours: 3:00pm - 11:00pm (Variable Days/M-F)
Job Essentials: The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements and competencies.
  • Screens GYN and Non-GYN and FNA cytology specimens.
  • Ensures every 10th negative GYN case is quality controlled by a pathologist as well as any other cases at the discretion of cytotechnologist.
  • Prepares a final diagnosis on negative/normal gynecologic specimens.
  • Enters all preliminary GYN and Non- GYN results in the system to be finalized by a pathologist
  • Attends Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology procedures in CT, Ultrasound and Endoscopy to determine specimen adequacy.
  • Ensures all attended procedure specimens are labeled and ordered correctly.
  • Maintains all supplies and stain control log for the mobile FNA cart which is stationed in CT and endoscopy suite.
  • Perform and document routine maintenance on microscopes and other laboratory equipment to ensure optimal instrument operation.
  • Rescreen FNA slides from the Cytodiagnosis and Breast Care Center as well as outside institutions as requested by pathologists.
  • Maintains cytology procedure manual and maintains CAP standards for cytology section.
  • Prepares cytology and thin prep specimens on a STAT basis when required.
  • Maintains the cytology laboratory in proper order according to all regulatory requirements for quality control, quality staining, cleanliness and safety.
  • Coordinates distribution and return of CAP materials for both educational and GYN proficiency test slides.
  • Keeps statistical records of cytotechnologist workload.
  • Maintains records and annual statistics for cytology specimens.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
  • Participates in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections.
  • Performs other duties as required by department.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Biological, Chemical or Clinical Laboratory Science required.
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Cytotechology and Certified in Cytotechnology by an HHS approved agency (ASCP).
  • Minimum one year experience preferred.

Englewood Health provides a minimum rate to comply with New Jersey Law. The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc. The minimum rate does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation. In addition to the minimum rate, eligible employees may receive comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and other wellness resources.
Minimum rate: $55.00
