Position Summary

The Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, finishing, and maintaining interior and exterior surfaces at company facilities and locations. This role supports the appearance, safety, and upkeep of company properties by performing professional painting, surface preparation, minor repairs, and related maintenance tasks while adhering to all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Smooth and prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint.
  • Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler needed for preparation.
  • Report equipment or supply needs to supervisor
  • Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings as instructed.
  • Select paint to match specified colors.
  • Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers, and apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
  • Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
  • Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level.
  • Graffiti removal from the interior or exterior buildings.
  • Glass repair of building windows.
  • Pick up and deliver painting supplies to store locations; maintain appropriate records.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following stablished inspection procedures.
  • Prepare all painted signs required by corporate.
  • Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor used. Allocate hours worked to various locations.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Store, handle, and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Adhere to safety policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and security policies and procedures (OSHA, CARF, HIPPA, and all other Federal, State, and Local regulatory standards and procedures) within assigned functional areas.
  • Other duties as assigned by Goodwill.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional painting experience required.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, drywall finishing, and finishing materials.
  • Ability to operate painting tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Basic maintenance and janitorial knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record preferred.

**Equipment Used: Brush, roller, striping machine, taping and masking, spray equipment, sand and water blaster, air compressor, dry wall tools and equipment, hand tools, ladder, scaffolding,. Light Truck or van.


Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and lifting.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for handling tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Visual ability including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.


Work Environment

Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including retail, warehouse, industrial, and office settings. The employee may be exposed to:

  • Dust, fumes, odors, paint, solvents, and other airborne particles
  • Loud noise levels from tools and equipment
  • Variable temperatures and weather conditions
  • Fast-paced work environments with changing priorities and deadlines
  • Occasional evening, weekend, or non-traditional work hours as needed

**Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used as required.
