Job description

Job Title: EV TechnicianJob Description

The EV Technician supports electric vehicle development and validation activities by maintaining development fleets, preparing and repairing prototype vehicles, and enabling successful vehicle testing programs. This role works closely with engineering teams to ready vehicles for testing, perform mechanical and electrical modifications, install instrumentation, and provide hands-on technical support both in-house and at external test locations across the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Support electric vehicle development and validation activities by maintaining development fleets and prototype vehicles.
  • Prepare vehicles for testing by performing inspections, system checks, and necessary adjustments to ensure readiness for development and validation programs.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in vehicle systems, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic components, to maintain reliable operation.
  • Perform maintenance and repair activities on electric vehicles in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Install, configure, and maintain vehicle instrumentation, test equipment, and wiring required for development and validation testing.
  • Support prototype vehicle builds by assisting with system modifications, parts replacement, and integration of new components.
  • Conduct vehicle system tests and evaluations, and support engineers in collecting and interpreting test data.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all vehicle work, including service records, test activities, parts usage, and modifications performed.
  • Track and manage tools, parts, and testing equipment to ensure availability and proper usage for ongoing projects.
  • Help keep the workshop clean, organized, and compliant with safety requirements, including proper storage and handling of tools and equipment.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance on tools and test equipment to ensure they remain in safe and reliable working condition.
  • Provide field testing support by traveling to test sites across the United States to assist with vehicle operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to urgent system issues during field tests by performing rapid diagnostics and repairs to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted testing activities.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, sharing observations and feedback from vehicle operation and testing to improve system design and validation processes.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Automotive Technician.
  • Hands-on experience working with automotive wiring harnesses, including installation, routing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using vehicle diagnostics and testing equipment to identify and resolve system issues.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and maintain technical documentation, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and service records.
  • Understanding of system design and validation processes as they relate to automotive or electric vehicle platforms.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with automotive systems, components, and repair procedures.
  • Capability to support both in-house and field-based vehicle testing activities, including travel to external test locations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing work that meets manufacturer and regulatory standards.
  • Organizational skills to maintain accurate records and manage tools, parts, and test equipment effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Automotive Repair or a related program (preferred).
  • ASE Certification (preferred).
  • Michigan State Mechanic Certification (preferred).
  • Experience working with electric vehicles or high-voltage automotive systems.
  • Familiarity with installing and maintaining vehicle instrumentation and test equipment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and testing teams in a development environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly to urgent issues during testing.
  • Comfort working in both workshop and field test environments, including varying conditions and travel demands.
Work Environment

This role operates in a mixed workshop and field-testing environment focused on electric vehicle development and validation. In the workshop, the EV Technician works with development fleets and prototype vehicles, using automotive tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized test instrumentation. The workspace emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with a requirement to maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good condition. This is a Contract position based out of Ypsilanti, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.50/hr.
