Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a half-time guest faculty in the History of Early Modern European Art and Architecture (ca. 1400-1750) for the 2026-2027 academic year. The candidate will teach two courses, one in the fall and one in the spring, on any topics in the histories of European art and architecture. We seek candidates who will situate European art and architecture within histories of global trade networks, colonialism, expansion, and empire, engaging discourses of the Global Mediterranean, and/or the Transpacific and Transatlantic Worlds.
Sarah Lawrence is a co-educational liberal arts college with a unique pedagogy, and candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to the development of the research, writing and analytical skills of their students. Lecture courses contain either two weekly lectures (capped at 45 students) and bi-weekly "group conferences" (15 students at a time), or one longer weekly lecture (capped at 35 students) and weekly "group conferences" (15 students at a time). Faculty teaching seminars (capped at 15 students) are required to meet individually with students biweekly for "conference," which entails guiding the student through a semester-long independent research project. Funding is available for field trips to museums in the New York City area.
Application materials must include Cover Letter, CV, course descriptions for three possible courses, a sample of scholarly writing, a copy of official transcripts, and two references who will be contacted for letters of recommendation upon the submission of the candidate's application.
