What are ETNs?

ETNs, or Exchange-Traded Notes, are unsecured debt securities issued by financial institutions that track the performance of a specific market index or strategy, minus fees. Unlike ETFs, ETNs do not represent ownership in a portfolio of securities but rather a promise by the issuer to pay a return linked to the index's performance. ETNs are traded on exchanges like stocks and can offer exposure to hard-to-access markets or strategies. However, their value depends on the creditworthiness of the issuing bank, introducing some risk. Investors should carefully consider fees, liquidity, and issuer risk before investing in ETNs.
