While the Informatica developer focuses on ETL processes using Informatica tools, the Data Warehouse Developer may work on broader data architecture and database design. Both roles can be remote and require similar certifications, but their primary focus differs: ETL process automation versus data warehouse design and maintenance.

What are some common challenges ETL Informatica Developers face when working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Remote ETL Informatica Developers often face challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams across different time zones, ensuring secure access to sensitive data, and troubleshooting complex data issues without immediate onsite support. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels, use secure VPNs or remote desktop solutions for accessing development environments, and participate in regular virtual meetings to stay aligned with project goals. Leveraging collaborative tools and maintaining thorough documentation also helps in overcoming remote work obstacles and ensures smooth project delivery.

Job description

Location: Haslet, TX
Salary: $45.00 USD Hourly - $52.00 USD Hourly
Description:
The Judge Group is working with a multi-location convenience retail organization to fill a POS Transaction Log (TLOG) Data Engineer / ETL Developer role.
The company operates a large store footprint and is focused on leveraging standardized POS transaction and market basket data to support reporting, analytics, and operational insights.
The Position
This contract role is responsible for ingesting, transforming, and loading POS Transaction Log (TLOG) data-including Market Basket data in NACS XML format-into a database or analytics platform.
The work is primarily database and ETL focused, supporting downstream analytics and reporting use cases.
The engagement is short-term (2-3 months) and will begin with an onsite ramp-up period to understand the POS environment and data flows, after which the role can transition to mostly remote work.
Responsibilities
Ingest and process POS Transaction Logs (TLOG) from retail store systems. Parse and transform NACS XML Market Basket data into relational database structures.
Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and incremental transaction data loads. Map raw transaction data into normalized schemas (items, tenders, discounts, taxes, fuel, loyalty, etc.).
Load and optimize data in a target database or data warehouse environment.
Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Handle common POS transaction complexities such as voids, returns, refunds, multi-tender transactions, and price overrides.
Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to confirm business rules and data definitions.
Document data mappings, transformation logic, and operational runbooks.
Troubleshoot data issues and support ongoing pipeline stability during the contract period.
Required Skills & Qualifications
3+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or database integration roles. Hands-on experience working with retail POS transaction data and/or TLOG files.
Strong SQL skills, including data transformation and performance tuning. Experience parsing XML data (NACS XML experience strongly preferred).
Experience building ETL pipelines using tools or frameworks such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, dbt, Airflow, Spark, or custom scripting.
Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language used for data pipelines (Python, Java, or C#).
Solid understanding of relational data modeling and data warehousing concepts.
Ability to work independently in a contract environment and deliver within a defined timeframe.
Desired Skills
Direct experience with NACS XML standards. Background in convenience store, fuel, or retail transaction systems.
Familiarity with common POS platforms or retail transaction ecosystems.
Experience supporting analytics or reporting use cases (e.g., market basket analysis).
Exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform) and modern data warehouses.
