Role Overview
The Project Manager / Product Owner for Ethos Final Expense is responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery and evolution of digital life insurance products within a fast-paced insurtech ecosystem. This role combines product ownership and delivery management to drive the development of Final Expense offerings, ensuring seamless integration with policy administration platforms, third-party data providers, and customer-facing applications.
The role requires strong expertise in life insurance products, digital underwriting, insurance data standards, and Agile delivery, with the ability to align business goals, customer experience, and technical execution.
Role Context
Ethos operates as a technology-driven life insurance platform, offering simplified, no-medical-exam policies across term, whole life, and Final Expense segments.
The Final Expense product line is a key growth area, requiring:
• Rapid product innovation
• Seamless digital experiences
• Strong integration across underwriting, policy admin, and distribution systems
This role plays a critical part in delivering scalable, compliant, and customer-centric insurance solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Product Ownership Responsibilities
• Define and own the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for Final Expense offerings
• Lead end-to-end product development, including policy structure, underwriting rules, and feature enhancements
• Collaborate with:
o Engineering teams
o UX/design teams
o Carrier partners
o Underwriting and compliance teams
• Drive customer journey optimization:
o Quote → eApplication → underwriting → issuance
• Ensure alignment with ACORD standards and insurance data exchange protocols
• Support eApplication platforms and policy document generation systems
• Conduct product discovery, experimentation, and validation of new features
Project Management Responsibilities
• Manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables for product launches and enhancements
• Coordinate cross-functional teams:
o Engineering
o Compliance
o Marketing
o Sales
• Track progress, risks, and dependencies, ensuring timely delivery
• Facilitate communication between product, engineering, and operations teams
• Lead Agile ceremonies:
o Sprint planning
o Backlog grooming
o Release planning
• Ensure alignment with overall product strategy and business objectives
Required Skills & Experience
• 5-10+ years of experience in:
o Product Management / Product Ownership
o Project Management (insurance or insurtech preferred)
• Strong knowledge of life insurance lifecycle:
o Policy administration
o Underwriting
o Issuance and servicing
• Experience with:
o Final Expense / Simplified Issue products
o Digital life insurance platforms (Ethos, Ladder, Haven Life models)
• Hands-on experience with:
o Policy administration systems
o Carrier integrations
o API-based architectures
• Familiarity with:
o ACORD standards and insurance data exchange
• Strong Agile/Scrum experience
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
