Ethereum Contracts are the actual smart contracts deployed on the blockchain, defining rules and logic. Solidity Developers are the professionals who write, test, and maintain these contracts using the Solidity programming language. While Ethereum Contracts are the end product, Solidity Developers are the creators behind them, working within blockchain environments to bring smart contracts to life.

What are Ethereum contracts?

Ethereum contracts, also known as smart contracts, are self-executing programs that run on the Ethereum blockchain. They automatically enforce rules and execute actions as specified in their code when certain conditions are met, without the need for intermediaries. These contracts are commonly written in the Solidity programming language and are used for various applications, such as decentralized finance (DeFi), token creation, and automated transactions. Smart contracts are immutable once deployed, ensuring trust and transparency in their operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ethereum Smart Contract Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ethereum Smart Contract Developer, you need strong skills in blockchain fundamentals, proficiency in Solidity programming, and a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with development tools like Truffle, Hardhat, and blockchain testing frameworks, as well as experience with version control systems like Git, is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating on secure and efficient contracts. These skills ensure the delivery of robust, secure, and reliable decentralized applications in a rapidly evolving ecosystem.

What are some common challenges developers face when working on Ethereum smart contracts, and how can they be addressed?

Developers working on Ethereum smart contracts often encounter challenges such as ensuring contract security, optimizing for gas efficiency, and staying updated with evolving best practices. Security is especially critical, as vulnerabilities can lead to significant financial losses; thorough testing, code audits, and the use of established libraries like OpenZeppelin can help mitigate risks. Additionally, developers must carefully design functions to minimize gas costs and understand the constraints of blockchain immutability. Collaboration with other team members, including auditors and frontend developers, is essential to deliver robust, user-friendly decentralized applications.

Our users are building the decentralized future

The Nomic Foundation is a non-profit advancing the Ethereum ecosystem. We build runtimes, compilers, build systems, and deployment solutions that are used by tens of thousands of users. Our focus is on empowering developers to decentralize the world. You can help.

Your impact Deep technical challenges

We tackle deep developer infrastructure projects that are usually only available in larger organizations. We build runtimes and compilers used by tens of thousands of users.

Your contributions will directly impact an ecosystem that is shaping the future of finance, data, and ownership. You won’t be working on optimizing a revenue stream to increase shareholder profits; you’ll create value for the Ethereum community and developer ecosystem.

Lean and robust

We run robust engineering practices and lightweight processes that provide us with structure and fast decision-making. Your time will be spent on technical challenges, coding, and launching features.

Our values Crypto & Ethereum belief Social Impact

We care about creating value for the world and Ethereum’s community in a meaningful way.

We consider a smooth building experience essential for ecosystem growth, and we take pride and pleasure in making software easier to build.

Time is Precious

We are respectful of people's time, including that of our users, the Ethereum community, external contributors, and our own team members and organization. Aiming for fast and efficient is our default.

High Standards

We aim to take the hard path without compromising quality or losing our sense of pragmatism.

Level Up

We always try to improve at all levels: individually, in our projects, and as a team. Beginner's mindset.

When we see room for improvement, we point it out and seek iteration, even if it's outside our direct responsibilities or areas of expertise.

Autonomy

To create space for deep focus, schedule flexibility, and effective async remote collaboration, we strive for autonomy in how we approach work and collaboration.

Kindness

We value and only hire people who embody respect, compassion, empathy, and kindness.

Senior Technical Product Manager, Hardhat & EDR Who we are

The Nomic Foundation is a non-profit advancing the Ethereum ecosystem. We build open-source runtimes, compilers, build systems, and deployment solutions that are used by tens of thousands of developers. We emphasize robust engineering and lean processes, allowing for quick decision-making and distraction-free software development. You have the opportunity to shape the future of the Ethereum ecosystem through deep technical work on critical developer infrastructure, where your specific contributions will have a tangible impact.

About the teams

This role will work closely with two teams on closely related products: Hardhat and EDR, which together power the core of our Ethereum developer tooling stack.

The Hardhat team builds our established and market‑leading products. These are user-facing infrastructure that developers use to write, test, compile, and deploy their Solidity contracts for Ethereum networks. The Hardhat suite of products is widely used in the ecosystem, and supports developers end to end, from early experimentation to production systems with billions in on‑chain capital at stake.

The EDR (Ethereum Development Runtime) team builds a high-performance runtime in Rust for developer tooling. EDR currently powers Hardhat’s local network simulation for development and testing and is designed to be reused by other tools, supporting more consistent and maintainable execution across the Ethereum developer ecosystem.

This is a fully remote role, open to candidates based in Central Europe through the Americas Eastern Time zone.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to own and drive the Hardhat and EDR product roadmaps in alignment with Nomic’s long-term vision. Both products are developer-facing and highly complex technically. Their product surface is primarily a collection of APIs and CLI tools.
