Description

Join Aztalan Bio as an Associate Merchandiser and help support a growing, innovative biorefinery in Jefferson, WI. This full-time role offers a Mon-Fri schedule competitive pay and a strong benefits package including medical, dental, vision, PTO, sick time, and more. In this role, you support the procurement of corn for ethanol production and the merchandising of Aztalan Bio's co-products. This role works directly with agricultural producers, grain suppliers, livestock operations, feed customers, and other industry partners to help optimize commodity values while supporting reliable plant operations. 


The position provides hands-on exposure and training to commodity merchandising, supply chain coordination, market analysis, and risk management. The Associate Merchandiser assists with negotiating purchases and sales, managing commodity positions, coordinating deliveries and shipments, analyzing market conditions, and developing strong supplier and customer relationships. This is an entry level role designed for an analytical, motivated individual interested in building a career in agricultural commodity merchandising and ethanol.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Merchandise corn and ethanol co-products.
  • Negotiate commodity transactions and build long-term business relationships with suppliers and end-users.
  • Monitor corn, feed ingredient, and commodity markets, including futures, basis levels, spreads, freight, and regional supply and demand conditions.
  • Assist with contracting, hedging, position management, and other commodity risk management activities.
  • Coordinate inbound corn deliveries and outbound co-product shipments with suppliers, customers, logistics, and plant operations.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret market and industry data to identify merchandising opportunities and support business decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records of contracts, pricing, deliveries, shipments, suppliers, and customers.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Accounting, Customer Service, and Logistics to support efficient plant operations and contract execution.
  • Represent Aztalan Bio at farms, customer locations, plant locations, and industry events, with periodic travel as needed.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, agriculture, or a related field preferred.
  • Interest or experience in agriculture, farming, grain, feed ingredients, ethanol, or commodity trading preferred, but not required.
  • Strong critical-thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Comfortable negotiating and operating in a competitive, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and customer service skills.
  • Strong numerical aptitude and interest in commodity markets and risk management.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • The work environment is an office setting as well as traveling to farms approximately 10% of the time.
  • Employee will be required to stand, walk, and occasionally lift supplies, products, or equipment as required.
  • Employee must be able to operate a motorized vehicle.
  • This position may enter the plant environment, in which the employee may be exposed to moderate to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, and/or to chemicals used in the process.
