What are ESY (Extended School Year) services?

ESY, or Extended School Year services, are special education and related services provided to students with disabilities beyond the regular school year. These services are intended to help students maintain the skills they have learned and prevent significant regression during long school breaks, such as summer vacation. ESY is not the same as summer school; it is tailored to a student's individual needs as determined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Eligibility and the types of services provided depend on each student's unique circumstances and needs.
