Job description
Assistant Director of Special Services
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum Requirement: Supervisor Certification or higher - New Jersey Principal Certification (CE, Provisional or Standard - 0200)
Administrative experience with extensive knowledge of special education, resources and state of the art practice required.
Demonstrated familiarity with special education law and regulations.
- Required criminal history background check
- Proof of citizenship or legal resident alien status
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the supervision of home instruction
- Coordinates health personnel and assures compliance with New Jersey Department of Education in the health services area
- Cooperates with the transportation department in planning and delivery of services to students whose IEP require this service
- Responsible for district wide student records including compliance with appropriate laws and regulations, including IEP timelines
- Prepares reports for federal, state and local reporting agencies
- Coordinates IR&S in all schools
- Responsible for all non-public services
- Responsible for securing, training, and assigning all paraprofessionals, RBT's, and teacher apprentices to needs outlined in IEP's
- Scheduling and monitoring all contracted related services providers
- Coordinates staff development opportunities to enable staff to better serve the needs of special education students
- Lead administrator on the observation and evaluation processes of all special education teachers in partnership with building principals
- Recruit and employ credentialed personnel in conjunction with the director of human resources as required to provide services to students with disabilities consistent with their IEP's
- Utilizes supervision, staff development and performance evaluation to improve educational programs
- Oversees Child Find
- Responsible for the supervision of Child Study Team members and related service providers
- Coordinates curriculum development and special education curricular modifications with content area supervisors
