Position Overview

The Junior Estimator – Commercial supports the Senior Commercial Estimator in developing accurate, competitive bids for commercial roofing projects. This is an entry-level, training-focused role for someone looking to build a career in commercial roofing estimating, combined with hands-on learning in takeoffs and cost analysis with exposure to client management, bid strategy, and project coordination. This role reports directly to the Senior Commercial Estimator and will take on the normal course responsibilities expected of a Junior Commercial Estimator in the roofing services industry.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Commercial Estimator in preparing detailed, accurate cost estimates for commercial roofing projects, including labor, materials, and equipment
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from architectural plans, blueprints, and project specifications
  • Review invitations to bid (ITBs) and requests for proposals (RFPs) and help track relevant bid opportunities
  • Conduct site visits and on-site evaluations to gather field measurements and assess existing roof conditions
  • Roof surveys on site.
  • Research and maintain current market data on material and labor costs to support pricing accuracy
  • Compile and organize historical estimating data (purchase orders, subcontracts, prior bids) to support future estimates and identify trends
  • Assist in soliciting and comparing subcontractor and supplier pricing with job quotes
  • Help prepare bid proposal packages, cost comparisons, and job cost reports
  • Support value engineering efforts by identifying cost-effective materials and system alternatives
  • Track bid opportunities and estimate status using company CRM/estimating software
  • Coordinate hand-off of awarded estimates and scope details to the project management team
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients, suppliers, and internal teams throughout the bid process
  • Ensure all estimates and documentation comply with company processes and industry standards
  • Enter warranties with the manufacturers


Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in construction estimating, roofing, or a related field (roofing preferred)
  • Working knowledge of, or strong willingness to learn, commercial roofing systems, materials, and industry terminology
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, submittals, and technical specifications (or aptitude to learn quickly)
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; familiarity with estimating or takeoff software (e.g., PlanSwift 11) a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple bids/deadlines at once
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred, or willingness to obtain
