The Estimating Manager is responsible for generating detailed and accurate cost estimates for renewable energy projects by leveraging benchmark data, historical pricing, and advanced estimating methodologies. This role collaborates across departments to identify risks and opportunities, supports contract negotiations, and ensures high-quality, data-driven estimates that inform project planning and execution.
Role Responsibilities:
  • Incorporate benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates for renewable energy projects
  • Provide indicative and detailed estimates using various estimating methods and mathematical models, utilizing estimating software and tools
  • Identify risks and opportunities to support a high-quality risk register, collaborating with Preconstruction and Project Execution teams
  • Collaborate with Developers, Engineers, Preconstruction Project Managers, and Project Execution team members to determine optimal construction approaches
  • Read and interpret contract documents, including relevant studies (e.g., Geotech/Phase 1 reports) and permits
  • Conduct estimate review meetings across multiple departments, including Development, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Energy Marketing, Transmission, and Finance
  • Generate bid schedules for RFP packages and review/abstract contractor bids, providing guidance in contract and change order negotiations
  • Conduct project hand-off meetings and assist in the execution of project contracts; prepare and reivew change orders and invoices as needed
  • Apply advanced analytical skills and estimating software proficiency to ensure accuracy and reliability of estimates
  • Apply learned techniques and contribute to analysis and investigation to solve problems during project estimation, including benchmarking, should-cost analysis, and leveraging project data to stress test assumptions
  • Build productive internal working relationships to resolve mutual problems and collaborate on procedures or transactions
  • May provide oversight or task coordination for Associates on assigned projects and review/validate portions of estimates and bid tab analyses prepared by junior team members

Job Requirements and Experiences:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management in a related field from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, preferably within the renewable energy sector
  • Construction experience is preferred
  • Professional expertise in estimating functions, with the ability to resolve a variety of issues and apply advanced analytical skills
  • Proficient in estimating software, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), SharePoint, and Teams
  • Broad understanding of renewable energy technologies, with specialization in at least one area
  • Experience identifying and mitigating risks, determining associated costs, and supporting high-quality risk registers
  • Strong math, computer, and analytical skills, including benchmarking, should cost analysis, and leveraging project data to stress test assumptions
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to build productive internal relationships and manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Capable of independently leading estimate review sessions and addressing gaps across departments
  • Accountable for reviewing and validating work prepared by junior team members, and providing oversight or task coordination as needed
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, adaptable to changing priorities, and able to multi-task while working independently or as part of a team
  • Strong business acumen, detail-oriented, and a sound understanding of business concepts
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and from job sites as assigned (up to 25% of the time)

  • This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWEA offices and field locations

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $140,000 -$165,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
