Summary
The Esports Coach will be responsible for leading an esports program at Independence Community College. This position is responsible for all aspects of directing the program, including recruiting qualified students for participation in the program, scheduling and coaching intercollegiate matches and tournaments, scheduling practice preparation, general understanding of coaching esports, and addressing any barriers to the success of the program. The Coach will also organize and provide opportunities for students on the competitive, business, and relationship side. The director must demonstrate a vision for a collegiate esports program at ICC and a commitment to the mission and vision of the college.
Salary
$29,000 annually plus on campus housing and meals.
$15.00 per hour additionally for Housing Supervisor duties (up to 20 hours per week).
Additionally, this position has full time benefits including but not limited to Health, Dental, Vision, 403b, Section 125 Supplemental benefits, Paid Vacation, Paid Sick Time, Paid Personal Time and Paid Holiday Time
The position is housed in the Student Affairs department and reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs. This position works collaboratively with all functional areas of the college.
An individual in this position is expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties within the department or college as assigned, and/or as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
• An Associate's degree in any field required.
• At least two years of experience in a competitive esports environment involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements. General knowledge of League of Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty, or other competitive titles is required. Additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to resolve issues independently.
• Strong relationship-building skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Have general knowledge about the equipment used in esports and streaming.
• Ability to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, and administrators.
• Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing responsibilities. Must promote a positive and equitable team environment.
• Exceptional organizational and scheduling skills.
• Must be able to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends. Significant travel is required for recruiting, as well as with team for tournaments.
• Must successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in any field preferred.
• 3-5 Years of experience in a competitive esports environment involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements. General knowledge of League of Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty, or other competitive titles is required.
• Coaching or teaching experience preferred.
• Experience recruiting high school or college students preferred.

• This position requires work to be completed beyond a standard 40-hour work week including evenings, nights, and weekends to support efforts related to eSports.
Essential Duties
• Use the College's mission and strategic plan as a guideline to develop and direct a successful esports program.
• Ensure an environment that promotes student safety and equity.
• Manage the recruitment and retention of students participating in the esports program. • Cultivate positive relationships with students and their families.
• Work with the Vice President for Student Affairs and campus partners to establish annual recruitment goals.
• Conduct coaching and instruction activities during training, practice, and competition.
• Provide guidance and input on the games selected for varsity competition.
• Develop practice schedules and a training program as appropriate for varsity and club esports teams.
• Coordinate with the Student Life Manager to integrate the team into the Student Union and provide support to the larger on-campus gaming community.
• Supervise team travel when appropriate.
• Running camps, clinics, and other promotional events.
• Seek out corporate sponsorships and other funding opportunities to align with the College's annual fundraising strategy.
• Ensure team compliance with all leagues, conferences, and institutional rules and regulations.
• Continuously ensure personal behavior and program reputation are in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and brand of ICC.
• Prepare and monitor annual budget for eSports program.
• Serve on various campus committees.

Independence Community College (ICC) is a two-year educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independence public school system. In 1967, Independence Community College legally separated from the school district. Construction of the new community college on a 68 acre campus, formerly the Independence Country Club, began in 1969. Classes at the new site began in September 1970. ICC campus is now home to the Academic Building, Fine Arts Building, Student Union, Cessna Learning Center, Field House, Administration Building, , fitness center, athletic practice fields, disc golf course, 96-bed multi-structure living complex, and a 200 bed .
By renovating a donated building, in 2010, we expanded our college to include ICC West (2615 West Main Street). This campus is located on the west side of Independence and is home to our technical programs: Allied Health, Cosmetology, and GED/ABE. Additional renovations were completed in 2012 to accomodate our newest program, Veterinary Technology. This state-of-the-art facility includes animal wards, a classroom, lab, surgery, pharmacy, prep room, small animal treatment, food prep, grooming, and radiology.
ICC also maintains presence downtown through the ICC Foundation office and by partnering with the Independence Business Resource Center.
