The Low Voltage Fire Alarm & Security Installer Role:

Reporting to the Fire Alarm supervisor, Security/Communications supervisor, and Operations Manager, the Low Voltage Fire Alarm & Security Installer plays a crucial role in commissioning, maintaining, repairing, and supporting Life Safety systems (Fire/Security/Communications). This includes Fire Systems such as Siemens, Silent Knight, VESDA, Simplex, and Notifier, as well as Security/Communications Systems like CCTV cameras, card access, and Electronic Security Panels.

The installer will travel to diverse client sites ranging from public school buildings to small, medium, and enterprise-level businesses, and government entities requiring stringent background clearances. While our clients are primarily in Pennsylvania, occasional travel to our Reading, York, and State College offices, along with overnight stays, is required.

Who You Are:

You are a highly motivated team player passionate about Life Safety, eager to contribute to the growth of the Fire/Security/Communications Divisions at BSGI. You are dedicated to providing exceptional service through continuous education and development in the Life Safety industry.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing on-site service, installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of fire alarm systems (Siemens, Silent Knight, VESDA, Simplex, Notifier, etc.)
  • Testing fire system operations to meet code requirements
  • Installing, networking, programming, and maintaining Electronic Security Systems
  • Familiarizing with CATV, Wireless, IP, and Networking standards
  • Providing technical support and training to customers
  • Experience with electric door hardware
  • Thorough and timely documentation of all activities

Where You’ll Be Located:

Ideally located within proximity to one of our offices (Reading, York, or State College), daily commute to these offices is unnecessary.

Daily travel to customer sites across Pennsylvania, including occasional overnights, is a standard part of the role.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license and minimal traffic violations to operate a company vehicle.

Requirements:

What You Bring: A combination of the following skills…

  • Strong technical knowledge and background in electronics, with a solid foundation in Fire Alarm systems
  • Ability to commission and modify basic fire alarm systems, including hardware additions or deletions such as panel hardware, circuit boards, detectors, stations, modules, and notification appliances
  • Demonstrated proficiency with tools such as a multimeter, lineman's telephone test set, and understanding of basic electronic theory
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Impeccable organizational and multitasking abilities in a professional setting
  • Preferably at least one (1) year of experience in Fire Alarm system installations
  • Associate's degree in Electronics or related field is advantageous
  • Industry certifications such as NICET and formal manufacturer training are a plus

And/Or:

  • Solid technical knowledge and electronics background
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Security System installations, including hardware, software, and network troubleshooting
  • Experience in commissioning, testing system operations, and comprehensive documentation
  • Basic understanding of network and cloud-based systems
  • Proficiency in interpreting manufacturer documentation, engineered site drawings, scopes of work, and matrices of operations
  • Ability to work at heights using lifts and ladders
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills in professional environments
  • Industry certifications such as IPVM, ASIS, ESA, NICET, CompTIA, AVIXA, etc., are advantageous

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical Fitness: Ability to ascend/descend ladders and stairs, and access elevated areas to inspect fire alarm system components installed at varying heights
  • Stamina to stand for extended periods and flexibility to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Manual dexterity to handle materials
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds daily; heavier lifting with mechanical or team assistance
  • Mobility: Comfort moving safely within confined spaces, crawl spaces, attics, and other installation areas
  • Vision: Visual acuity in at least one eye of 20/40 or better (uncorrected) or 20/70 with corrective lenses; ability to distinguish colors
