The Supply Chain Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the master production schedule to ensure customer demand is met while maximizing manufacturing efficiency, inventory performance, and on-time delivery. This role serves as the central link between Sales, Customer Service, Production, Planning, Procurement, and Logistics to align manufacturing capacity with customer requirements and business objectives.
The Master Scheduler will utilize ERP and planning systems to balance demand, inventory levels, production constraints, and material availability within a fast-paced fiber optic cable manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
  • Develop and maintain a rolling Master Production Schedule (MPS) for fiber optic cable and related products.
  • Translate customer demand forecasts and sales orders into executable production schedules.
  • Balance manufacturing capacity, labor availability, equipment constraints, and material supply.
  • Monitor schedule adherence and adjust plans to address changing priorities and operational challenges.
  • Lead weekly production planning and scheduling meetings with cross-functional teams.

Demand & Inventory Management
  • Collaborate with Demand Planning, Sales, and Customer Service to review forecasts and customer requirements.
  • Analyze inventory levels and maintain optimal stock to support service and financial objectives.
  • Identify demand fluctuations, risks, and capacity gaps and develop mitigation plans.
  • Drive inventory reduction initiatives while maintaining required customer service levels.

Supply Chain Coordination
  • Partner with Procurement to ensure raw material availability aligns with production schedules.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Manufacturing leaders regarding machine utilization and production capacity.
  • Work closely with Logistics to support shipment commitments and customer delivery requirements.
  • Communicate schedule changes, constraints, and recovery plans to stakeholders.

Performance Analysis
  • Monitor and report key planning metrics including:
    • Schedule attainment
    • On-time delivery
    • Inventory turns
    • Capacity utilization
    • Customer service levels
    • Production adherence
  • Analyze production performance and recommend schedule improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning accuracy and manufacturing efficiency.

ERP & Systems Management
  • Maintain planning parameters and scheduling data within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ensure accuracy of bills of materials, lead times, routing information, and planning master data.
  • Support implementation and optimization of planning tools and reporting systems.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of production planning, master scheduling, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • APICS/ASCM Certification (CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent).
  • Experience within fiber optic cable, wire and cable, plastics extrusion, or continuous manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge of Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
  • Experience with advanced planning and scheduling systems (APS).
