By centralizing data and automating workflows, ERP Manufacturing solutions increase efficiency, reduce costs, and provide real-time insights for better decision-making. They are essential for manufacturers seeking to remain competitive in today’s fast-paced market.

To thrive as an ERP Manufacturing Specialist, you need a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain management, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) concepts, often supported by a degree in business, engineering, or IT. Expertise in ERP software such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics, along with relevant certifications, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive process improvements. These skills are vital for optimizing manufacturing operations, ensuring data accuracy, and supporting organizational efficiency.

What are some common challenges faced by ERP manufacturing professionals when implementing new systems?

ERP Manufacturing professionals often encounter challenges such as aligning the new system with existing production processes, ensuring data accuracy during migration, and securing user buy-in from different departments. Adapting legacy workflows to the standardized processes of the ERP can require significant change management and training. Collaboration with IT, production teams, and vendors is essential to troubleshoot issues and ensure a smooth transition, ultimately minimizing disruptions to manufacturing operations.

  • Configure and validate item master data, including finished goods, customer-owned inventory and manufactured parts.
  • Test and validate invoicing workflows, including pricing, sales tax breakouts (RTN), revenue recognition, and freight billing.

Post Go-Live Support & Optimization

  • Serve as a primary functional ERP support resource following go-live.
  • Triage, analyze, and resolve issues related to order entry, item setup, planning, manufacturing, warehousing, and billing.
  • Distinguish between user error, process gaps, and system defects; escalate technical issues with clear documentation and reproducible test cases.
  • Monitor transaction flows and system outputs to ensure processes perform as designed.

Continuous Improvement & Validation

  • Perform ongoing validation of master data, templates, and configurations to maintain system integrity as business needs evolve.
  • Retest impacted processes following system patches, configuration changes, or business process updates.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, or improve ERP usage based on operational feedback.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure system behavior remains aligned with business processes.

Documentation Ownership & Training

  • Create and maintain ERP documentation as living content covering estimating, order entry, part creation, planning, purchasing, shop floor, warehouse and billing processes.
  • Update procedures to reflect post go-live changes, stabilization learnings, and efficiency improvements.
  • Develop and deliver role-based training, refresher sessions, and onboarding support for new users.

Metrics, Feedback & Adoption Support

  • Track recurring issues, user questions, and process breakdowns to identify trends.
  • Provide structured insights to leadership on adoption challenges, process pain points, and training needs.
  • Contribute data and recommendations to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Solid understanding of order-to-cash, manufacturing, inventory, planning, and purchasing processes.
  • Experience supporting ERP implementations, upgrades, or major process changes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience and understanding of print, mail, or fulfillment operations preferred.

Skills and abilities:
