How much do erlang language jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 15, 2026, the average yearly pay for erlang language in the United States is $65,716.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $69,000.00 and $69,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is Erlang still being used?

Erlang is still actively used in industries requiring high concurrency, fault tolerance, and distributed systems, such as telecommunications, messaging platforms, and financial services. Many companies maintain legacy systems or develop new applications using Erlang, and it remains relevant for developers working with scalable, reliable backend solutions.

What companies use Erlang?

Erlang is used by several major companies including Ericsson, which originally developed the language for telecommunications. Other companies such as WhatsApp, Klarna, and RabbitMQ also utilize Erlang for building scalable, fault-tolerant systems. Knowledge of Erlang is valuable for roles involving distributed systems, real-time applications, and high availability environments.

What is the difference between Erlang Language vs Erlang Developer?

AspectErlang LanguageErlang Developer
Primary FocusProgramming language used for building concurrent, distributed systemsProfessional who writes, tests, and maintains applications using Erlang
Required SkillsKnowledge of Erlang syntax, concurrency, and distributed computingProficiency in Erlang, problem-solving, and software development practices
Work EnvironmentUsed in telecom, messaging, and real-time systemsDevelops applications within similar industries, often in teams
CertificationsNone specific; expertise demonstrated through projects and experienceOften requires programming certifications or relevant experience

In summary, Erlang Language is the programming language itself, while an Erlang Developer is a professional skilled in using Erlang to create and maintain software applications. Both are essential in industries like telecom and real-time systems, but one refers to the tool, and the other to the role.

What can I do with Erlang?

Erlang is used in roles such as Erlang developer or software engineer to build highly concurrent, fault-tolerant systems like telecommunications, messaging platforms, and distributed applications. It involves working with the Erlang runtime system, functional programming concepts, and tools like OTP for designing reliable systems.

Is Erlang a high level language?

Erlang is considered a high-level programming language designed for concurrent, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems. It provides abstracted features that simplify complex tasks, making it suitable for developing scalable applications. Erlang's syntax and environment support rapid development and maintenance, typical of high-level languages.

Job description

Company Description

America Networks is a leading sensor and networking solutions partner for companies in any Industrial, Manufacturing, and Waste management space.
We design and manufacture sensors for storage tanks, water metering, energy metering, gas monitoring, and asset management.
Our founders are hardcore telecommunications engineers with combined 200 + years of experience in designing, optimizing and performance engineering; for several mid - large wireless carriers internationally - that saw a need to provide low power, cost efficient sensors to collect data, create alerts, and predict needed actions. We have combined these sensors with low power, wide area (LPWA) networking technologies to provide clients various options to decrease re-occurring costs associated with operating an IoT network of sensors and connected devices.
We specialize in design, deployment, optimization, and support of these Networks. Whether an off-the-shelf or custom solution is needed, we'll create a solution and push the data on the best cloud platform to fit your needs, including your own.

Job Description

Works on problems of moderate and varied complexity where analysis of data may require adaptation of standardized practices or precedent. Acts independently to identify and select appropriate methodologies. Work customarily and regularly (50% of time or more) requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment. Normally receives general instructions on non-routine work assignments. Requires additional instructions and frequent guidance on new assignments. Decisions are made independently. Assigned multiple tasks or projects are generally reviewed after completion. Contact is typically coordinative in nature and involves exchanging detailed technical information. May deal with both internal and external contacts. Demonstrates working knowledge in job-related functional area and of the business. Bachelor's degree, or equivalent. 7-10 years of experience. Fresh Master's Degree graduates (in Computer Science) are welcome.
The candidate will be working on its backend code that is written in Erlang programming language. Any prior knowledge of Erlang, or any functional programming language, would be beneficial, but not mandatory. The candidate will be given on the job training in Erlang programming language.
While the candidate won't be doing databse related programming, it can be useful if she or he has rudimentary database querying skills. Basic Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) understanding is needed.
