What does an ER admitting staff member do?

An ER Admitting staff member is responsible for registering patients who arrive at the emergency room, collecting their personal and insurance information, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed accurately. They act as the first point of contact for patients and families, helping to facilitate quick and efficient admission during stressful situations. Their duties also include verifying insurance coverage, obtaining necessary signatures, and sometimes collecting copayments or providing information about hospital policies. Experience with hospital information systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and patient registration software is typically required. Excellent communication, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help in interacting with patients and medical staff during stressful situations. These skills ensure efficient patient intake, accurate record-keeping, and a positive experience for patients during critical moments.
