The Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU SOM) and Wayne Health, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) seek a faculty member at the Associate or Full Professor level to lead the Sleep Section within the Division. The successful candidate will have experience and interest in sleep research. As a faculty member of WSU SOM, the candidate will be expected to be involved in funded research and to establish an innovative, independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural funding. The successful candidate must demonstrate outstanding record of scholarship, publications and productivity in basic or translational research involving sleep. A record of current or past extramural funding is required.
The PCCSM program is a collaborative effort between Wayne Health (WH), the clinical entity, and WSU SOM. As a member of WH and the Division of PCCSM, the physician will participate in the clinical activities of the division including rounding on the clinical services and staffing outpatient clinics. The candidate will also play a role is training of residents, Sleep fellows and Pulmonary and Critical Care fellows, and will have the opportunity to participate in medical school basic science education based on the candidate's research focus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality treatment to all patients in a professional manner
  • Participate in the teaching/training program(s)
  • Communicate with administrators, and Physicians to facilitate practice operations
  • Participate in team effort to guarantee efficient services to patients
  • Conforms to the ethical code of conduct of his/her professional organization, to the Wayne Health Corporate Compliance Program and all standards of the Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and to clinic policies and procedures
  • Maintains a current professional license, professional liability insurance at limits required by Wayne Health Credentialing as applicable
  • Attend meetings and training as requested including participation in mandatory annual Wayne Health training in such areas as: recipient rights, confidentiality, corporate compliance, prevention of violence and management of unsafe behaviors, and cultural competence
  • Participates in professional development activities and keeps current with healthcare trends and practices
  • Obeys confidentiality as required by all federal, state, regulatory and Wayne Health policies
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:
  • Licensed M.D. or DO, board certified in Internal Medicine and Sleep Medicine
Skills and Abilities:
  • High level of interpersonal skills, written and verbal, necessary to effectively communicate, establish, and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the Department and/or Practice
  • Excellent analytical ability necessary to independently identify and resolve extremely complex and unusual problems or discrepancies
  • Clinical knowledge to meet the medical requirements relating to various procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial data
  • Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and manage time
  • Patient management skills necessary to provide quality care

  • Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedule:
  • Hours and days to be determined by the business need of the department. Additional hours may be required
