Professionals in Equity Accounting often encounter challenges such as managing complex cap tables, tracking equity transactions, and ensuring compliance with evolving regulations. These challenges can be addressed by staying up to date with industry standards, using specialized equity management software, and collaborating closely with legal and HR teams. Developing strong attention to detail and effective communication skills also helps in minimizing errors and streamlining the reporting process.

What is the highest paid accounting position?

The highest paid accounting positions are typically Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President of Finance, who oversee financial strategy and management at an executive level. These roles often require extensive experience, advanced certifications like CPA or CFA, and strong leadership skills, with salaries reaching into the high six or seven figures in large organizations.

Can you make $100,000 as an accountant?

Equity accountants can earn $100,000 or more annually, especially with experience, advanced certifications like CPA or CMA, and working in high-paying industries or senior roles. Entry-level positions typically start lower, but salaries increase with expertise and responsibility.

What is equity in accounting?

In equity accounting, equity refers to the residual interest in the assets of a company after deducting liabilities. It represents the ownership value held by shareholders and is reported on the balance sheet as shareholders' equity or net assets. Equity accountants analyze and report on this ownership stake, often using financial statements and accounting standards such as GAAP or IFRS.

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Equity accountants in senior or executive roles, especially in large corporations or financial firms, can potentially earn $500,000 or more annually, often through bonuses and profit sharing. However, most entry- and mid-level accounting positions typically have lower salaries, and reaching this level usually requires extensive experience, advanced certifications like CPA or CFA, and specialized skills in financial analysis or investment management.

What is equity accounting?

Equity accounting is a method used to record investments in associated companies or joint ventures. Under this method, the investor recognizes their share of the investee's profits or losses in their own financial statements, rather than recording only the dividends received. This approach provides a more accurate reflection of the investor's economic interest in the investee. Equity accounting is typically required when an investor has significant influence, usually indicated by ownership of 20% to 50% of the voting stock. It is a key concept in both financial accounting and corporate finance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Equity Accounting, and why are they important?

To thrive in Equity Accounting, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, equity compensation plans, and relevant tax regulations, often supported by a degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with equity management software (e.g., Carta, Shareworks), advanced Excel skills, and knowledge of GAAP or IFRS are typically required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are essential soft skills for ensuring accuracy and collaborating with stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for maintaining compliance, minimizing errors, and supporting sound financial decision-making regarding equity transactions.

Match Group is a leading provider of dating products across the globe. Our portfolio includes Tinder, Hinge, Match, Meetic, PlentyOfFish, OkCupid, The League, HER, and others, each designed to spark meaningful connections for singles worldwide. Creating a sense of belonging doesnโ€™t stop at our products - itโ€™s the foundation of every team we hire.
ย
When it comes to dating, the connection starts online, but the real magic happens once you meet in real life (IRL).ย  We think the same is true for creating the best platforms, so we work together IRL 3 days/week.

Our Accounting team is seeking a Director, Equity Accounting to serve as the definitive leader for the end-to-end accounting, valuation, and forecasting of our global equity incentive plans. This is a high-impact, Dallas-based role where you will act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, ensuring our complex equity structures are technically sound and compliant.

How youโ€™ll make an impact:
  • Strategic Financial Ownership: Lead the end-to-end accounting, valuation, and forecasting for all global equity incentive plans. You are the definitive subject matter expert for ASC 718 and ASC 260 and the primary architect of the equity-related financial statement disclosures.

  • Executive Advisory & Board Reporting: Partner closely with the SVP of Financial Reporting, Legal Counsel, and the People Team. You will prepare and present high-level analysis on plan availability, burn rates, and the financial impact of proposed equity structures.

  • Global Mobility & Tax Compliance: Serve as the internal authority on the complexities of a modern workforce. You will oversee the logic for state and international mobility, ensuring that cross-border tax withholding and reporting are technically sound and compliant with local jurisdictions.

  • Advanced Forecasting & Modeling: Own the "Equity Crystal Ball." You will develop sophisticated models to forecast SBC expense, diluted shares impact, and cash flow requirements under multiple "what-if" scenarios.

  • Audit & Control Leadership: Set the standard for SOX compliance within the equity function. You will lead the relationship with external auditors, defending technical positions on valuations, and award modifications.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the bridge between Finance, People/HR, and Legal. You will be the Accounting voice at the table providing insights into the accounting impact of daily decisions.

  • Team Mentorship: Directly manage and develop a Manager-level professional, fostering a culture of technical excellence, career growth, and extreme attention to detail.

  • Other Areas: ESPP, Section 16 filings

We may be a Match if:
  • Experience: 8-12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3-5+ years specifically focused on equity accounting.

  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in Accounting.

  • Certification: Active CPA is required.

  • Technical knowledge: Mastery of US GAAP, specifically ASC 718 and ASC 260

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.

Bonus Points:
  • Public accounting background

  • Certified Equity Professional

  • M&A experience with equity treatment

  • Shareworks and OneStream experience

  • SEC Reporting experience
