The Team

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank's Corporate, Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.

The Role

 

GBME is searching for a Director, Equities Trading Technology to lead its Global Equities Trading Technology team. The successful candidate is a seasoned technology leader, with experience managing teams in the capital market space, ideally with background in Equities. You will work closely with business teams (trading desks, COO) alongside your technology team to develop, enhance and support existing and new solutions for the Institutional Equity Trading desks globally.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Manage a team of senior managers, engineers, business analysts, developers and support staff responsible for trading platforms and applications used by the Institutional Equity Trading desks for Cash and Electronic execution
  • Collaborate with other technology teams to ensure consistency and alignment in bank strategy and implementation
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with the Trading desks and foster an environment of collaboration with the Front-office
  • Keep up to date with technologies, trends and regulations that may impact the business
  • Interface other internal business teams such as compliance and internal control, audit
  • Build a high-performance environment and sustain a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment
  • Use a coaching mindset and behavior; communicate business strategies and manage succession and development for the team

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in managing teams in the Capital Markets space
  • Knowledge of Equities Trading workflows (front to back)
  • Experience interfacing directly with the Front office desks (Sales and Trading)
  • Experience with Trading system applications and industry protocols (FIX)
  • Experience in Equities Electronic Trading an asset
  • Experience with interfacing vendors and managing vendor platforms
  • Software development experience building trading systems and tools
  • Excellent communication skills to varying audiences including executive leadership and non-technical resources.
  • Team player, able to efficiently interact with different businesses and technology groups.
  • Computer Science degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Business qualifications (such as CFA, CSC), an asset
