Job description

Position Overview:

This is a full-time union position for a Journeyman Electrician. The Journeyman Electrician will install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and apparatus in commercial, industrial, and institutional settings, and often supervises apprentices.


Location & Travel:

  • Field assignment: To be ready for work on-time and abiding by IBEW Code of Excellence.
  • Ability to work first, second, and third shifts according to project needs.
  • Ability to work in all construction related environments - heights, vertical, hot, cold, inside, outside, noise, office, etc.
  • Occasional travel as necessary to other local union jurisdictions, trainings, offsite meetings, customer, or vendor facilities.


Responsibilities:

  • Installing conduit, raceways, wire, cable trays, lighting fixtures, receptacles, and electrical machinery.
  • Establishing, repairing, and maintaining electrical service to buildings, including panels, switchgear, and transformers.
  • Installing fire alarm systems, security systems, HVAC controls, and communication cables.
  • Repairing and troubleshooting complex electrical systems, motors, and lighting.
  • Reading blueprints, schematics, and layouts to plan wiring sequences and installation procedures.
  • Safety - Demonstrate and Promote IB Abel Culture of safety
  • Pre-job briefing/JHA at start of day, and as tasks change.
  • Ensure all labor is adhering to OSHA and IB Abel Safety regulations. Training and coaching as required.
  • Toolbox talks
  • Quality - All work is to be done in a neat and workmanlike manner.
  • Leadership: Must have the ability to follow direction from supervision, work with others to achieve goals, and have a willingness for mentoring and supervising apprentices.
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations and IBA Fleet Policies.
  • Work involves lifting heavy equipment, climbing and working from ladders, working on elevated platforms, standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces.
  • Poised and positive representation of IB Abel and IBEW.
  • Follow all company and customer polices.
  • Communicate material needs, field conditions, and scope changes to supervision in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and secure personal hand tools (as required by CBA) and properly use employer-provided tools and equipment.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned that are consistent with classification and CBA provisions.
  • Installation of work as per contract scope of work and requirements.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • IBEW Journeyman Classification orcompletion with passing score of an established Journeyman test administered by IBEW Local 229 within 30 days of employment.
  • 4 or more years' experience as a commercial and/or industrial electrician.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • NFPA 70E Certified
  • OSHA 10 Certified
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Proficient with hand tools and power tools used in electrical work.

Other:

  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, local codes, utility, BICSI, TIA/EIA, and OSHA requirements.
  • Craft certification, training, and experience appropriate for assignment scope.

Desired:

  • CPR/First Aid Certified
