Compensation for this role is $60,000 - $80,000. The role may also be eligible for bonus or commission pay. Actual compensation may vary due to factors such as experience and skill set.
The Intermodal Equipment Control Analyst, is responsible for the daily management, control, and optimization of railroad public equipment customer pools to ensure equipment availability, fluid network movement, and minimal exposure to rail per diem, storage, misuse, off-route, dwell, and other rail-related penalties. This role coordinates across railroads, ramps, dray providers, customers, and internal operations teams to keep equipment properly positioned, quickly turned, and returned within allowable free time. The position is accountable for reducing avoidable penalty expense that can materially impact company profitability.
What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Manage railroad equipment pools to ensure equipment availability, efficient movement, and compliance with rail usage requirements.
  • Monitor equipment status, free-time usage, and dwell activity to prevent per diem, storage, misuse, and other avoidable charges.
  • Partner with railroads, terminals, dray carriers, customers, and internal teams to coordinate equipment movements, returns, and exception resolution.
  • Track and reconcile equipment events across multiple systems, ensuring accurate reporting and minimizing penalty exposure.
  • Analyze equipment performance, identify cost drivers, challenge erroneous charges, and recommend process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, escalation processes, and communication workflows that improve equipment utilization and turn times.
  • Provide reporting, insights, and recommendations to support operational performance, cost control, and customer success.

At a minimum, you'll need:
  • 3+ years in intermodal/rail operations or equipment
  • control
  • Expertise in rail portals & public equipment pools
  • High proficiency in Excel and data analytics
  • Strong escalation & communication skills

It'd be great if you also have:
  • 2 years of professional sales experience
  • 2 years of experience in transportation or Third-Party Logistics (3PL)
