Summary Statement
DPH seeks to hire a Physician with expertise in epidemiology to serve as the Delaware State Epidemiologist and to oversee the DPH Epidemiology Section, reorganize current assets, and establish the Office of Rural Health Epidemiology (ORHE). The State Epidemiologist will lead a diverse group of highly specialized epidemiology experts who work in the areas of infectious diseases, environmental health, maternal child health, chronic diseases and rural health. This is particularly needed as DE commits to more closely address the health needs of its rural dwellers and other vulnerable populations. This position will also provide direct patient care when assigned (via telemedicine or in-person).\r\n\r\nHybrid position with office location at Public Health\r\nLab (30 Sunnyside Road Smyrna DE 1997).\r\n\r\n

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Master's degree in Public health, Health Administration,\r\n Business Administration or equivalent.\r\n\r\n\r\n
Essential Functions
\r\nEssential functions are fundamental, core functions common\r\nto all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive\r\nlist of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class\r\nspecifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job\r\nduties of similar kinds not specifically listed here.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Serves as the designated State Epidemiologist and oversees\r\n the work of epidemiologist staff and non-epidemiologist staff within the DPH\r\n Epidemiology Section.\r\n Directs statewide epidemiology activities including but not\r\n limited to surveillance, investigation, reporting and response activities for\r\n infectious diseases, chronic diseases, environmental conditions, maternal\r\n health and other conditions of public health significance\r\n Serves as Delaware Epidemiology's liaison with federal and\r\n regional partners including but not limited to CDC, CTSE (Council of state and\r\n territorial epidemiologists)\r\n Analyzes and interprets surveillance, laboratory, and\r\n population health data to identify disease trends, assess health risks, and\r\n inform public health policy, clinical guidance, and resource allocation\r\n decisions.\r\n Provides medical and scientific consultation to state and\r\n county health officials, healthcare providers, and community partners during\r\n public health emergencies including but not limited to issuing clinical\r\n advisories and recommending control measures \r\n Performs direct patient care in person or via telemedicine\r\n\r\n\r\n
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for State Chief Medical Epidemiologist\r\nPlease submit a cover letter and resume providing a detailed description of how your education, training, and/or experience meets each job requirement including employer, experience/responsibilities and dates (month/year) of employment/training.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Possession of a Delaware Physician M.D. or Delaware Physician D.O. license or eligibility to obtain a Delaware license (license must be secured within 6 months of hire)\r\n Six months experience in practicing medicine in a hospital, clinic or private practice.\r\n Six months experience in health or human services program administration such as overseeing and directing the development, implementation and evaluation of health or human services programs and services; planning and establishing short and long range program goals and objectives. Providing advice to other agency organizational units through consultation.\r\n Demonstrated experience in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics or management of large datasets.\r\n\r\n\r\n
