Job Description: Technology Transactions and Product Counsel (Strategic Partnerships, EPIC Center)

Job Description: Applied Materials is seeking an experienced, creative, and energetic team player to support complex transactions and provide general business and product counseling, in support of Applied's EPIC Center and other strategic initiatives. This person should be comfortable interacting with business executives, product and development teams, our customers, and external collaborators. Participating in internal projects designed to drive continuous process improvement and technology adoption is a critical aspect of the role. This position will report to a Managing Director in the Legal and Compliance Organization.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating broad range of technology transactions and other complex agreements, including joint development, collaboration, and university research agreements, to achieve desired business objectives.
  • Key member of cross-functional team supporting Applied's EPIC Center in Sunnyvale, CA.
  • Counseling business teams and other stakeholders regarding contract provisions, intellectual property rights, and other legal matters relating to product development and strategic partnerships.
  • Partnering effectively with other groups in the Legal and Compliance Organization to deliver effective and comprehensive legal support to business stakeholders.
  • Actively participating in process and technology projects designed to improve service and efficiency within the Legal and Compliance Organization.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited and recognized law school.
  • 7+ years of legal experience with a focus on product counseling and complex transactions.
  • Deep understanding of contract terms relating to creation and allocation of technology and IP rights.
  • Excellent negotiation skills including first-hand experience leading negotiations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to support a global business.
  • Ability to spot compliance and regulatory implications of new businesses.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries and with a diverse group of colleagues in multiple countries.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Licensed to practice law in California.

  • Work experience in both law firm and in-house corporate legal departments.
  • Experience providing legal counsel to technology companies.
  • Understand how to translate business needs into contract language and creatively resolve business issues.
  • Interest in technology implementation and adoption in the workplace.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and ability to create specific action plans based on general guidance and deliver results.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
